Position Brief -Regulatory Officer
Make a difference in your community through fair, consistent and qualified regulation. The City of Gold Coast is seeking an experienced and motivated Regulatory Officer to join our City Parking Team. This is an opportunity to play an important role in supporting the City's regulatory functions and ensuring decisions are made fairly, consistently and in accordance with legislation, policy and established procedures. As a Regulatory Officer, you will work across a range of regulatory activities, using your sound judgement, attention to detail and strong communication skills to process parking infringements, make legislatively based decisions, manage sensitive information and support effective operational outcomes.
About the team
- Patrolling and enforcing parking laws in paid parking and timed parking areas, off-street regulated parking areas, designated disabled parking bays, and respond to and investigate complaints and breaches of parking regulations.
- Reviewing and managing unpaid parking fines and related disputes.
- Delivering animal management initiatives to residents including patrols and enforcement, impounding and off leash facilities, pet education, and complaints management, to ensure animals are appropriately cared for and managed in compliance with legislation.
About the role
The Regulatory Officer is responsible for performing essential regulatory duties that support the efficient, accurate and consistent delivery of the City Parking Unit's operations. You will manage regulatory matters that require careful consideration, discretion and a strong understanding of legislative and procedural requirements. You will communicate decisions clearly to customers and stakeholders, ensuring they understand the basis for decisions and the relevant regulatory requirements.
This role requires someone who can balance legislative compliance with a strong customer focus and who is confident exercising discretion within established frameworks.
Your responsibilities
- Process parking infringements in line with established policies and procedures.
- Ensure sensitive information is handled with discretion to meet Privacy legislation and City policies and procedures.
- Issue decisions by using clear written and verbal communication to articulate decisions that are regulatory and legislatively based.
- Manage information accurately in accordance with established systems and processes, to ensure data integrity, operational efficiency, and information security.
- Plan and prioritise daily tasks by assessing workload, deadlines, and task importance to ensure timely and efficient completion of operational responsibilities.
- Utilise organisational knowledge and data to exercise discretion, refine processes and elevate the customer experience.
- Provide support by using technical systems and specialised procedural knowledge.
- Contribute to a culture focused on high safety and wellbeing.
Abut You
The successful candidate will be required to be statutorily authorised to perform the regulatory functions associated with this position and must be able to exercise delegated authority in accordance with relevant legislation, City policies and procedures.

- Communicate clearly and effectively, using appropriate grammar, language and tone, and adapting your communication style to suit different audiences and situations.
- Demonstrate sound judgement and the ability to make fair, consistent and legislatively based regulatory decisions.
- Apply relevant legislation, policies, procedures and delegations confidently and appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately manage regulatory information and records.
- Work effectively in a high-volume operational environment, managing competing priorities and meeting required timeframes.
- Demonstrate resilience and professionalism when dealing with complex or challenging customer interactions.
- Experience working in a regulatory, compliance, enforcement, government or similarly legislated environment.
- A Certificate 3 in Business Administration or equivalent knowledge.
