About Northcott
Northcott is a leading not-for-profit disability service provider. Established in 1929, Northcott has more than 95 years of experience supporting children and adults with disability to realise their potential and live the life they choose. Northcott operates as The Northcott Society Ltd, a company limited by guarantee and registered charity, and is a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider and NDIS Early Childhood Partner in the Community, delivering services from metropolitan and regional locations across New South Wales, the ACT and Queensland.
Northcott supports more than 30,000 children and adults with disability each year through early childhood intervention, therapy and clinical services, supported housing, group and individual supports, employment and life skills programs, and community participation.
Northcott is governed by a board of nine directors including the Chair.
Key selection criteria
- Deep risk, governance and regulatory experience at senior executive or board level, potentially including a Chief Risk Officer background. Experience in health, aged care or clinical care settings is highly regarded, though sector-specific experience is not essential
- Demonstrated experience in risk management and regulatory compliance, including engagement with government funders or regulators (e.g. NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission, ACNC)
- Previous experience chairing a Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (or similar) will be highly regarded, though it is not essential
- The interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships with customers, carers,
funders and key stakeholders within a disability services workplace
Highly desirable: Graduate of the AICD (or equivalent). While prior board experience is highly regarded, the board will also consider emerging non-executive directors. Familiarity with the disability sector, including the challenges and opportunities facing not-for-profit organisations, will also be highly regarded
Possible second appointment
In addition to the vacancy outlined above, the board may consider appointing a second non-executive director with demonstrated senior commercial leadership experience in the following specialist areas:
- Sales, marketing or customer-facing retail/consumer businesses, with a strong track record of driving revenue growth in transactional, direct-to-consumer environments
- Experience navigating individual, fee-for-service customer relationships (rather than purely business-to-business or government-funded/contracted arrangements)
- Commercial acumen and strategic insight to support Northcott’s growth in consumer-facing markets, complementing the board’s existing government-funding and NDIS expertise
Remuneration and time commitment
Directors are remunerated by way of a market competitive annual base fee, with additional loadings for committee chair roles, and reasonable board-related expenses are also met by Northcott. The estimated time commitment is approximately 2 days per month.
Northcott is seeking a candidate preferably based in NSW.
In line with Northcott’s focus on diversity and inclusion, applications are being encouraged from First Nations people and those from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, people with disability and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Applicants are required to provide the following documents as part of their application:
- Current resume (maximum three pages)
- Cover letter stating the skills and experience you can bring to the role, addressing the key selection criteria
