About the Opportunity

n

We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join a high profile government technology program focused on delivering secure cloud hosting and AI platform capabilities across the Australian Public Service.

n

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in designing, building and supporting secure AWS cloud environments that enable cutting-edge digital and AI solutions at scale. You will work alongside technical and business stakeholders to deliver cloud infrastructure, security controls, automation and platform services in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

n

In this role, you will:

n

n
- Design, deploy and manage AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda and VPC services.
n
- Develop and implement cloud security controls aligned with the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).
n
- Conduct security assessments, audits and vulnerability reviews.
n
- Monitor, maintain and optimise the performance, scalability and availability of AWS environments.
n
- Build and manage infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation frameworks.
n
- Support delivery teams adopting AWS services and provide technical guidance and documentation.
n
- Contribute to DevOps and DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline development and automation.
n
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and knowledge transfer to stakeholders and team members.
n
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure and resilient cloud capabilities.
n

Essential Skills and Experience

n

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

n

n
- Extensive experience designing, deploying and supporting AWS cloud environments.
n
- Strong understanding of AWS security best practices and implementation of controls aligned to the ISM.
n




- Hands on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation and/or Ansible.
n
- Proven background in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps or related technical disciplines.
n
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
n
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation and DevSecOps methodologies.
n
- Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and cloud governance frameworks.
n
- Exposure to Microsoft DevOps, Jenkins, Git, ELK Stack or similar toolsets.
n
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills.
n
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
n

Desirable Experience

n

The following will be highly regarded:

n

n
- Experience with AWS AI services, including Amazon Bedrock.
n
- Exposure to Microsoft Azure environments and services.
n
- AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer or equivalent.
n
- Scripting experience with Python, Shell or PowerShell.
n
- Experience delivering cloud migration programs.
n
- Previous experience in Agile delivery environments.
n
- Experience working within government or highly regulated enterprise environments.
n

Working Arrangements

n

n
- Hybrid work model.
n
- Minimum of 2 days per fortnight onsite in Canberra.
n
- Some after-hours support may be required.
n
- Candidates based in the ACT region are preferred, however outstanding candidates from other locations may be considered with a demonstrated ability to regularly attend the Canberra office when required.
