About the Opportunity
The Intake and Assessment Officer is the first point of contact for complainants to Ombudsman SA (OSA) and is responsible for:
- receiving and undertaking initial assessments of complaints
- identifying out of jurisdiction complaints
- referring matters to other appropriate complaint handling bodies
- resolving simple complaints through early resolution
- contacting agencies to obtain relevant information
- conducting research on background material including relevant legislation
- advising complainants and agencies of the outcome of assessments verbally or in writing.
The role is also responsible for undertaking some project work and administrative support.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Knowledge and skills in customer service.
- Ability to assess and respond to enquiries promptly, accurately and professionally.
- Ability to set and meet deadlines, and coordinate and prioritise work.
- Good oral and written communication skills with experience in clearly documenting advice and outcomes.

About the Business
Ombudsman SA deals with complaints about South Australian state and local government. The Ombudsman acts independently and impartially, and promotes fairness, integrity, transparency, accountability and good public administration in SA. Where an agency has made an error, the Ombudsman may recommend action to ensure improvement and/or work with parties to resolve an issue.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
