Barrow Kitchen & Bar is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our established kitchen team.
Located in Mount Nathan, Barrow Kitchen offers a relaxed country atmosphere and serves high-quality Modern Australian cuisine from an open kitchen. Our restaurant accommodates up to 120 guests and regularly hosts functions and special events.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a hands-on position requiring a qualified Chef who can perform effectively in a busy commercial kitchen and consistently prepare high-quality food.
Within Barrow Kitchen's small, owner-operated structure, this position carries the internal title of Head Chef. The role includes responsibility for food and supply ordering, stock monitoring and reporting kitchen matters directly to the Director/Owner. The Director/Owner retains responsibility for overall business management, staffing and final operational decisions.
KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:
-Preparing and cooking menu items consistently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen
-Assisting the Director/Owner with menu planning and estimating food and labour costs
-Managing food and supply orders and monitoring stock levels
-Reporting stock, ordering and kitchen issues directly to the Director/Owner
-Monitoring the quality and presentation of dishes during preparation and service
-Discussing food-preparation and service issues with management, kitchen employees and front-of-house staff
-Demonstrating cooking techniques and providing practical guidance to kitchen employees when required
-Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient workstation
-Supporting effective teamwork during preparation and service
-Complying with all food-safety, hygiene and HACCP requirements
-Applying sound technical knowledge across a variety of cooking methods and menu styles
-Assisting with the induction and training of kitchen employees when required
-Storing, rotating, freezing and preserving food correctly to maintain quality and minimise waste
ABOUT YOU
The successful applicant must have:
-A relevant qualification equivalent to an Australian Certificate III or higher in Commercial Cookery
-At least two years of relevant professional experience as a Chef
-Experience working in a busy commercial kitchen
-Strong cooking, time-management and organisational skills
-Sound knowledge of food ordering, stock control and cost management
-High standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene and safety
-An understanding of HACCP and food-safety requirements
-Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
-A reliable work ethic and a positive, professional attitude
-Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends, evenings and public holidays as required
