Role Overview
An chance is available for an experienced Site Electrical Engineer to join a major utility-scale Solar + BESS project in regional NSW as the project progresses into its commissioning and energisation phase.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Site Electrical Engineer will act as a key owner-side electrical representative on site, overseeing the EPC contractor and supporting the successful transition from construction through commissioning, energisation and handover.
This role is suited to an experienced electrical engineer with direct utility-scale solar experience and strong exposure to site delivery, electrical QA/QC and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and monitor the EPC contractor’s electrical construction and commissioning activities.
- Ensure all electrical works comply with Australian electrical standards, project specifications, statutory requirements and applicable codes.
- Review and verify electrical ITPs, inspection records, test packs, NCRs, RFIs and quality documentation.
- Conduct site inspections and quality checks across electrical installations, including:
- PV systems
- BESS
- Transformers
- Switchgear and switchboards
- HV/MV/LV cabling
- Protection systems
- Earthing and electrical-civil interfaces
- Coordinate and support testing, commissioning and energisation activities.
- Witness functional, performance and commissioning tests as required.
- Support electrical system integration across PV, BESS and grid connection infrastructure.
- Review energisation plans, switching programs, isolation arrangements, LOTO and permit-to-work requirements.
- Identify electrical defects, non-conformances and technical issues, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and engineering teams.
- Liaise with key stakeholders including:
- EPC contractor
- Project Manager
- Owner’s Engineer
- Grid and engineering teams
- Network Service Providers
- AEMO where applicable
- Commissioning contractors and subcontractors
- Monitor delivery, installation, storage and handling of electrical equipment in accordance with OEM and project requirements.
- Support project reporting, progress reviews, technical meetings, audits and stage-gate approvals.
- Assist with final documentation, as-built drawings, commissioning records and handover documentation.
- Support verification of completed site works and contractor progress claims.
- Ensure electrical safety, quality and environmental requirements are maintained throughout the project.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Approximately 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, including strong site-based project delivery exposure.
- Minimum 3 years of direct utility-scale renewable energy experience, ideally across large-scale solar and BESS projects.
- Direct utility-scale solar farm experience is essential.
- BESS experience is highly regarded.
- Strong experience across construction, testing, commissioning and energisation.
- Experience overseeing EPC contractors and subcontractors.
- Strong knowledge of:
- HV/MV/LV electrical systems
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Protection systems
- Electrical cabling
- PV systems
- BESS
- Grid interconnection
- Experience reviewing ITPs, test packs, NCRs, RFIs and quality documentation.
- Understanding of electrical switching, isolation, LOTO and permit-to-work processes.
- Experience working with grid, NSP and commissioning stakeholders would be highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of Australian electrical standards, HSE requirements and quality management systems.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving capability.
- Valid Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Ability to work full-time on site Monday to Friday.
