About the role
Hearty Foods is seeking a Kitchen Hand to join our dynamic kitchen team in Warana, QLD 4575. This is a casual position that offers flexible working arrangements to suit your lifestyle. As a Kitchen Hand, you will play a vital role in supporting our culinary operations, ensuring our kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently whilst maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and hygiene. Your contribution will directly impact the quality of meals we deliver to our customers and the overall success of our hospitality business.
Hours of work - 30 - 40 per week. Monday to Thursday. No weekends, nights or public holidays.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning vegetables, meats and other food items
- Assisting chefs and senior kitchen staff with food preparation and cooking tasks as directed
- Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen workspace, ensuring all work areas meet health and safety standards
- Washing and sanitising dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment
- Storing food items correctly, following proper labelling and rotation procedures to ensure food safety
- Removing and disposing of waste materials in accordance with environmental and health regulations
- Supporting with basic stock management and reporting inventory levels as required
- Following all food safety and hygiene protocols, including correct handling of allergens
- Contributing to a positive team environment and assisting colleagues when needed
What we're looking for
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Hand, Food Preparation Assistant or similar role in a hospitality, restaurant or catering environment (preferred but not essential)
- Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices,
including knowledge of cross-contamination prevention
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organisation standards
- Physical fitness and capability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry items, and perform repetitive tasks
- Reliable and punctual with a adaptable approach to shift work
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team
- Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one (may be required depending on local regulations)
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced kitchen staff
