Mission Australia is seeking two Community Engagement Workers to join our The Way Back Support Service in Broken Hill.
Working alongside local stakeholders, service providers, Aboriginal organisations, and community members, you will play a key role in strengthening community connections and supporting recovery‐oriented outcomes for people impacted by suicidal distress.The Way Back Support Service provides non‐clinical support for people following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis.
The service works collaboratively with individuals, families, health services, and community organisations to promote recovery, reduce social isolation, and strengthen community connections.As a Community Engagement Worker, you will help drive local engagement initiatives, facilitate collaboration across stakeholders, and support the ongoing development of community‐based responses that improve outcomes for participants and their families.One of these positions is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified position under section 14(D) of the NSW Anti‐Discrimination Act **** and all applicants must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians.




Being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification.Your key responsibilities will be to:Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders and partner organisationsSupport the development and implementation of local action plans and engagement strategiesFacilitate meetings, forums, community discussions, and stakeholder engagement activitiesUndertake community mapping and development activitiesSupport case conferencing and collaborative service delivery approachesSupport Individual clients and support care coordination tasks and caseloads as required.Collect, analyse, and report on program outcomes and community insightsContribute to continuous improvement initiatives and evidence‐informed practicePromote recovery‐oriented approaches and community wellbeing outcomesRequirements for successQualifications in Community Development, Community Services, or a related discipline, or equivalent experienceExperience building effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and community groupsKnowledge of the Western NSW region and local community networksStrong communication, facilitation, and public speaking skillsExperience preparing reports, submissions, or briefing materialsSound understanding of mental health, suicidality, recovery‐oriented practice, and psychosocial rehabilitationKnowledge of community development principles and place‐based approachesStrong organisational and administrative skillsProficiency using Microsoft Office and digital systemsA current driver's licenceCurrent First Aid and CPROne of the two positions is an identified position under section 14(D)
