The Role The Aviation Safety Manager APS 5 is accountable under broad direction to undertake complex aviation safety activities. They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence’s mission and business objectives. They will work with independence having the authority and discretion to investigate and gather information from diverse sources and explore new ideas and different viewpoints to support the longer-term business objectives.

An APS 5 Aviation Safety Manager, will apply initiative and experience to analyse, plan, review and adjust priorities. They will undertake objective, systematic analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence along with detailed technical, operational, skilled and procedural advice in relation to complex problems.

Promote aviation safety across the training centre.
Provide advice on the application of aviation safety legislation and Defence policies.
Contribute to implementation and continuous improvement of aviation safety management systems in accordance with legislation and Defence policies.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive issues.
Work collaboratively with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
Resolve problems using professional expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action and implications for aviation safety activities.
