why they look the way they do?
This is a newly created
Company Accountant
position within an established Australian business, offering the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the internal accounting function and become a trusted source of financial information for management.
You'll take responsibility for
monthly financial reporting, ERP financial integrity, inventory and costing
, providing management with accurate and timely visibility across performance, margins and working capital.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable getting into the detail, investigating discrepancies and improving the systems and processes behind the numbers.

The Opportunity
As Company Accountant, you'll own the internal accounting function and provide management with accurate, meaningful financial information they can use to make better commercial decisions.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing monthly management accounts
Managing month-end journals and adjustments
Maintaining and reconciling the general ledger
Preparing balance sheet reconciliations
Reporting on aged inventory and aged receivables
Preparing monthly and year-to-date budget variance reporting
Cash-flow forecasting and working capital monitoring
Preparing monthly Business Activity Statements
Supporting budgeting and forecasting




Liaising with the external accountant for year-end accounts and tax returns
You'll also prepare a comprehensive monthly workpaper pack supporting the accounts and ensure management has confidence in the financial information being reported.
ERP, Inventory & Costing
This is where the position becomes a little different from a traditional Company Accountant role.
A significant part of your responsibility will be ensuring the integrity of
inventory, costing and financial data within the ERP system
.
You'll:
Maintain accurate product, inventory and costing data
Reconcile ERP inventory and costing information against the financial accounts
Analyse inventory and procurement from a financial perspective
Report on product costs and margins
Monitor purchasing costs and inventory movements
Identify discrepancies and investigate their root cause
Improve financial controls and reporting processes
Improve the quality and reliability of financial and ERP data
The objective isn't simply to identify that something doesn't reconcile. You'll be expected to understand
why
, work through the underlying data or process issue and explain its commercial impact clearly to management.
For this position,
SAP experience is essential
.
We're looking for someone who understands how transactional information flows through an ERP system and ultimately impacts the financial accounts.
You'll be comfortable interrogating data, identifying issues and working through them rather than simply accepting what the system produces.
Experience working with
inventory and product costing
, particularly within a manufacturing,



wholesale or distribution environment, will be highly regarded.
Requirements
You'll be a practical, commercially minded accountant who enjoys taking ownership.
Ideally, you'll bring:
Strong hands-on accounting experience
Month-end and general ledger experience
Experience preparing management accounts
Strong balance sheet reconciliation and workpaper capability
SAP experience
Robust ERP and data capability
Inventory and product costing experience
Understanding of cash flow and working capital
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
Confidence investigating discrepancies through to root cause
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to management
A self-directed approach and willingness to challenge data when something doesn't look right
CA, CPA or IPA qualifications are preferred
, although strong relevant experience will also be considered.
