About the Department / Program
The Chief Nursing and Midwifery Office provide strategic,professionaland operational leadership for Monash Health's nursing and midwifery workforce.
Bringing together the Workforce, Professional Practice, Education, Mental Health Education, Prevention of Violence and Aggression and Practice Improvement teams, the Office drives workforce capability, professional standards, clinicalgovernanceand continuous improvement.
Working in partnership with clinical services across the organisation, the Office supports nurses and midwives at every stage of their career to deliver safe,high-qualityand compassionate care for our community.
The Professional Practice teamoperateswithin the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer and provides organisation-wide leadership and support across nursing and midwifery governance, credentialling, advanced practice, scope of practice and professional standards.
The team works collaboratively with clinical and operational leaders to support secure,contemporaryand evidence-based nursing and midwifery practice.
The team leads professional practice initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, support regulatorycomplianceand promote professional excellence across Monash Health.
Key areas of focus include credentialling, classification support, advanced practice governance, professional standards, workforceinitiativesand organisational professional practice projects.
About the Role
Join our team as an Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery – Professional Practice on an ongoing full-time basis, working across multiple Monash Health sites.
This senior nursing and midwifery leadership role is driven by a commitment to advancing professional excellence, strengtheninggovernanceand supporting safe, high-quality care across Monash Health.
Working within the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, you will lead key professional practice portfolios, including credentialling, scope of practice, advanced practice, classificationservicesand regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery – Professional Practice, you will lead the implementation of strategic priorities, governance frameworks and professional practice initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, professionalstandardsand contemporary models of care.




You will work collaboratively with operational,professionaland executive leaders to ensure nursing and midwifery practiceremainsevidence-informed,contemporaryand aligned with organisational priorities and regulatory requirements.
You will provide leadership and support to professional practice teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, professionalexcellenceand continuous improvement.
As a senior leader, you will influence organisational decision-making, provideexpert advice on complex professional practice matters, and lead initiatives that optimise nursing and midwifery practice outcomes across Monash Health.
This multi-site role requires regular travel and engagement across Monash Health locations.
Working collaboratively across the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (CNMO) portfolios, the successful candidate will contribute to key workforce initiatives and maybe requiredtoparticipatein occasional out-of-hours activities and events to support organisational priorities.
In this role, you will:
Provide operational and professional leadership for the Professional Practice portfolio within the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer.
Provide expert advice and consultation regarding professional governance, advanced practice, credentialling, scope of practice and regulatory requirements.
Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of professional practice frameworks, policies and governance processes that support nursing and midwifery excellence.
Provide leadership for credentialling frameworks, advanced practice governance, prescribing pathways and extended scope initiatives.
Lead organisation-wide projects and programs that strengthen professional capability, workforce development and contemporary models of care, supporting delivery of strategic portfolio priorities.
Monitor emerging professional, regulatory and workforce issues and provide advice regarding associated risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies.
Foster strong partnerships with clinical leaders, professional bodies, education providers and external stakeholders to advance professional practice outcomes.
Support organisational compliance with professional standards, accreditation requirements and relevant legislative and industrial obligations.
Lead consultation, engagement and change management activities that support workforce innovation and professional practice improvement.
Contribute to professional governance priorities and broader Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer objectives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Significant senior leadership experience within professional governance, clinical governance, workforce, skilled practice or a related healthcare portfolio.
Extensive knowledge of professional regulation, credentialling, governance frameworks, workforce standards and relevant industrial instruments.
Demonstrated expertise in governance frameworks that support advanced nursing and/or midwifery practice, including scope of practice, extended scope roles, prescribing pathways and credentialling.
Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives, complex programs and projects across multiple stakeholders and services.
Highly developed stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build productive partnerships across executive, operational and clinical leadership groups.




Demonstrated ability to provide expert advice and recommendations on complex professional practice, governance and workforce matters.
Strong risk management, critical thinking and decision-making skills, including the ability to identify issues, develop solutions and implement sustainable improvements.
Demonstrated experience leading organisational change, consultation and engagement activities that support workforce and professional practice outcomes.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive reports, briefing papers, governance documentation and business cases.
Demonstrated ability to analyse, interpret and present complex information to support strategic planning, policy development and organisational decision-making.
Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, professional excellence and continuous improvement.
Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with current, unconditional Ahpra registration.
Postgraduate qualification in Nursing, Midwifery, Leadership, Health Management or a related discipline.
Current Victorian Driver Licence with the ability to travel across Monash Health sites as required.
Highly Desirable
Experience leading advanced practice nursing and/or midwifery portfolios, credentialling frameworks, prescribing pathways or scope of practice initiatives.
Experience in professional governance, workforce, education, quality improvement or professional practice programs within a large and complex health service.
Experience working with executive leadership, professional bodies, regulatory agencies and external stakeholders to influence professional practice and workforce outcomes.
Membership of a relevant skilled nursing, midwifery or healthcare leadership organisation.
Experience contributing to state-wide, national or professional advisory groups, committees or strategic initiatives.
