This occupation involves the development, implementation, and execution of structured testing procedures to identify software defects, system vulnerabilities, and performance bottlenecks.
The individual works within technical teams to verify that final product delivery aligns with business specifications and Australian industry standards, mitigating deployment risks.

Coordinate with software developers, business analysts, and systems architects to understand product design specifications.
Oversee the creation and scheduling of comprehensive test plans and test suites.
Manage the software defect lifecycle by identifying, logging, tracking, and verifying system issues.
Provide objective feedback on functional specifications, design designs, and system requirements.
Monitor and maintain designated test environments to ensure readiness for deployment cycles.
Report regularly on testing progress, test coverage, and software quality metrics to project stakeholders.
Promote continuous improvement in quality assurance standards and internal testing processes.
Review system specifications, user stories, and technical design documents to plan testing activities.
Develop automated and manual test scripts to evaluate system performance, security, and functionality.
Execute system, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing phases during deployment cycles.
Analyse test results to identify variations between system outputs and original design requirements.
Document software defects with clear steps to reproduce within the designated tracking system.
Verify defect fixes applied by the engineering team through targeted re-testing and regression testing.
Maintain technical test documentation, including test cases, traceability matrices, and test logs.
Collaborate with technical teams to isolate, diagnose, and resolve complex system faults.
Utilise specialised testing software and frameworks to execute performance, stress, and load testing.
Compile final test summary reports outlining software readiness and risks prior to production release.
Qualification & experience In Australia, this occupation requires a level of skill commensurate with an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
In some instances, at least five years of relevant experience or relevant vendor certifications may substitute for the formal qualification.
