We're looking for an Events Officer who's great at doing one thing above all else: making things happen.
This role is about rolling up your sleeves and delivering events that connect people with Paroo Shire Council and Australia in ways that feel meaningful and genuine.
Working closely with the Tourism Team Leader, you'll help deliver events across Paroo Shire, from relaxed community gatherings, local celebrations, and small events in our townships to major regional events that welcome visitors and showcase the character of our communities. Every event matters. You'll know when to keep things easy, friendly and authentic, and when to create a polished, memorable experience that stands out.

Position Objectives
The Events Officer supports the Tourism & Events Team in the planning, coordination, promotion and delivery of Council events across the Paroo Shire. The role is responsible for assisting with the successful delivery of events from initial planning through to post-event evaluation, whilst ensuring events are well organised, financially responsible, safe and aligned with Council objectives. The Events Officer will also provide operational support across other tourism projects and activities as required.
Support the planning, coordination and delivery of Council events and programs.
Assist with event administration, budgeting, funding opportunities and sponsorship activities.
Coordinate event logistics, venues, infrastructure, contractors and operational requirements.
Provide in office support to ensure the successful delivery of events and activities.
Liaise with performers, suppliers, sponsors, community groups and other stakeholders to
Assist in the coordination of entertainment, programming and participant engagement activities.
Support the marketing and promotion of events across a range of communication channels.




Assist with the development and distribution of promotional and communication materials.
Contribute to tourism initiatives and the promotion of Paroo Shire as a visitor destination.
Provide support to tourism projects, campaigns, visitor services and major tourism events as required.
Ensure activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, Council policies and procedures.
Assist with risk management, safety, compliance, reporting and record-keeping requirements.
Contribute to event evaluation, stakeholder feedback and continuous improvement initiatives.
Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Undertake other duties within the scope of the position as directed by the Tourism Team Leader.
Key Accountabilities
The role will require flexibility to work outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, particularly during event delivery periods.
The Events Officer may be required to travel within the Paroo Shire and undertake work in outdoor environments and during varying weather conditions.
The Events Officer will contribute to the successful delivery of events that are:

Delivered within approved budgets and timeframes.
Safe, compliant and appropriately managed.
Effectively promoted to residents and visitors.
Supportive of local businesses, community organisation and tourism operators.
Evaluated following completion to identify outcomes and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential or highly regarded
'C' Class Queensland Driver's License.
Pre-Employment Health Assessment and National Police Check prior to appointment.
Hold or willing to obtain a Working with Children Check ( WWCC - Blue Card).
Demonstrated experience or strong interest in tourism, events, visitor services and destination development.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital business systems, with experience using websites, social media platforms, marketing tools and other relevant software.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Apply Council policies and procedures in everyday work activities to assist Council in ensuring a secure work environment and to meet the standards imposed by any relevant safety legislation as required by Queensland's Work Health and Safety Act ****.
Maintain a positive attitude towards acquiring an understanding of work health and safety (WHS) legislation, including Council WHS policies and procedures and foster and maintain a positive attitude towards WHS within the individual work teams.
