The opportunity Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT). The CSI-IPT forms a cooperative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA**** Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA**** Phase 1).
The role
The Navigation and Aviation Engineer is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Navigation and Aviation systems within the Ship Combat Systems environment. The role ensures the equipment is successfully installed into the platform in accordance with Design Documentation, commissioned, and tested to ensure it meets operational and performance requirements, and is delivered in accordance with engineering, safety, and quality standards. The role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to manage complex navigation and aviation system issues to support the successful delivery of maritime combat capability.
Participate in the development and management of system requirements analysis in respect of test systems (i.e. test equipment, harnesses, & instrumentation systems).
Participate in requirements reviews for the product and the test systems.
Prepare Set to Work and Installation and Checkout procedures using design and qualification criteria defined by the system designer.
Ensure all test & integration records are maintained in Configuration Management (CM), including contributing to Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) and Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
Utilise test tools effectively to undertake test, integration and verification including diagnosing problems and analysing results, capturing in the project Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
Work with relevant stakeholders to resolve production queries, including management of changes back into the design.
Work with stakeholders to negotiate support to T&C; activities.
Versatile work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
Minimum 4 years' experience in Engineering activities prior to this role. Past exposure in the Integration, Installation, Test and Evaluation of CS Systems into Naval Platforms or equivalent complex Military Systems having challenging constraints. Significant experience and expertise in relevant technologies and domains with substantial qualified experience as a Systems Engineer Extensive experience working in an engineering project multi-disciplinary environment (preferably within the defence industry) Ability to manage multiple, concurrent activities, with tight deadlines, while understanding and managing priorities, dependencies and risks Practitioner's level of experience in the fields of Systems Engineering (i.e. Requirements Management, System Architecture, Systems Integration, and/or Verification and Validation).
Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
