NSW Health Pathology is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Molecular and Cytogenetics team in the Genetics Laboratory at Randwick. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of genetic diagnostics, performing a diverse range of specialised tests that help clinicians diagnose rare diseases and guide patient care. As one of Australia's leading centres for genetic diagnostics, the Genetics Laboratory at Randwick delivers a comprehensive genome diagnostic service within a collaborative and consultative pathology environment. You'll work alongside expert scientists and clinical teams, gaining exposure to a broad range of advanced technologies and assays, including karyotyping, FISH, microarray and sequencing techniques spanning single genes to whole exomes. What you'll be doing
n
Responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities including the coordination and provisions of scientific and technical training and the ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement.

Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
n
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a Molecular and Cytogenetics department, including demonstrated technical bench experience involving genetic testing
n
Demonstrated experience in the use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
n
Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
n
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
n




Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
n
Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
n
Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
