About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic
IT Operations Engineer I
to join our Payment Services Operations team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career IT skilled looking to build expertise in enterprise operations and payment technologies. You will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of critical payment processing platforms, ensuring service availability, incident resolution, system monitoring, and operational excellence.
Working closely with customers, vendors, and internal technical teams, you will contribute to maintaining secure, reliable, and highly available payment services for leading financial institutions across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Service Delivery
Participate in the analysis of business and technical requirements for payment system platforms
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of RUN IT operational procedures
Assist with production industrialization initiatives and Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) activities
Participate in qualification testing and deployment of corrective patches and system enhancements
Ensure operational activities comply with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
Contribute to maintaining high levels of service availability and operational performance
Incident Management & Technical Support
Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support for operational services
Investigate, analyse, diagnose, and resolve incidents within agreed service levels
Monitor operational incidents and perform root cause analysis
Implement corrective and preventive actions to minimise recurring issues
Anticipate operational risks and system evolution requirements
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of technical documentation
Monitoring & Platform Operations
Support monitoring, alerting, scheduling, backup, and batch processing activities
Assist in defining operational tasks and monitoring procedures
Participate in production go-live preparation and operational readiness reviews
Contribute to operational reporting and service performance monitoring
Support maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Assist in managing relationships with customers, vendors, and service providers
Participate in processing operational requests and support activities
Contribute to service reporting and operational reviews
Support the delivery of high-quality customer service and operational outcomes
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience:
Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
1-3 years of experience in IT Operations, System Administration, Infrastructure Support, or a similar role
Recent graduates with relevant internships or practical experience are encouraged to apply
Technical Skills:
Experience working with Unix/Linux environments
Knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other relational databases
Experience with Shell Scripting and batch processing activities
Familiarity with file transfer solutions such as SFTP or CFT
Understanding of network and security fundamentals
Exposure to monitoring and alerting platforms
Knowledge of enterprise scheduling tools such as Automic, Dollar Universe ($U), or similar is advantageous
Exposure to payment systems, Visa, Mastercard, or financial transaction processing environments is highly regarded
