The Child Protection and Child Wellbeing Unit is supported by strong Aboriginal cultural governance structures and works in close partnership with the SCHN Aboriginal Health Directorate to embed the Network's Aboriginal Cultural Safety Framework across service delivery and models of care. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to culturally safe, trauma-informed, and healing-centred approaches that support Aboriginal children, young people, families, and communities.
The successful applicant will have access to cultural supervision and support and will be encouraged to incorporate cultural strengths mapping, cultural healing approaches, and culturally responsive practices into assessment, intervention, and treatment planning. Working within a growing and connected Aboriginal workforce, the successful applicant will have opportunities to build relationships across SCHN's Aboriginal workforce network, participate in cultural mentoring and peer support, and contribute to strengthening Aboriginal leadership and representation throughout the organisation.

What you'll be doing
The Aboriginal Health Clinician, Child Protection and Wellbeing provides culturally safe, trauma-informed therapeutic, casework, advocacy, and support services to Aboriginal children, young people, and families who may be affected by abuse, neglect, domestic violence, child sexual abuse, or other child protection and wellbeing concerns. Working from a strengths-based and family-centred approach, the role partners with Aboriginal communities, families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote child safety, wellbeing, healing, and engagement with health and therapeutic services.
Embedded within the Child Protection Units across Sydney Children's Hospital Network, the position contributes to excellence in child wellbeing and protection, prevention, education, advocacy, and early intervention, while strengthening culturally responsive practice and supporting improved outcomes for Aboriginal children and families. The role is supported by the Aboriginal health Directorate and maintains solid connections with the Network's Priority Populations stream and Aboriginal Health workforce, ensuring Aboriginal perspectives and cultural safety are integrated across service delivery.
The position is supported through ongoing cultural and clinical supervision, with access to professional development, education, training opportunities, and structured career progression pathways to support workforce growth and capability development within child protection and wellbeing services.
Health Professional Level 1
Manage a caseload of clients with moderate to complex needs under professional supervision.
Work within established protocols and guidelines.
Actively develop professional competence through supervision, mentoring, and training.
Engage in regular consultation with clinical leads, team leaders, and clinical supervisors to develop care plans for clients and/or families.
Establish sound working relationships with local Aboriginal services.




Health Professional Level 2
Manage a caseload of clients with moderate to complex needs.
Practise independently within the defined professional scope.
Contribute to service development and quality improvement activities.
Provide informal support and guidance to less experienced staff or students.
Identify service gaps for Aboriginal clients to ensure they can access and engage with the health system.
Health Professional Level 3
Work independently and at an advanced level to manage complex, high-risk, and multifaceted client presentations.
Provide clinical and cultural leadership within the service.
Deliver supervision, mentoring, and professional support to staff.
Contribute to policy development, program design, evaluation, and service planning.
Provide expert advice on Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing and cultural safety at the service or district level.
