What you'll do:
Santos is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Decommissioning Engineer to join our Project Execution team based in Perth. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the technical leadership and execution management of early-phase decommissioning projects. You will oversee multi-disciplinary work scopes across both offshore assets and onshore facilities, ensuring that all activities are completed safely, compliantly, and in alignment with Santos' stringent environmental and operational standards.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the Assess and Select phase deliverables for decommissioning scopes, including development of options studies, concept screening, and technical assurance reviews, ensuring alignment with Santos stage-gate governance and regulatory expectations prior to project sanction
Manage the end-to-end development of project documentation, including Basis of Abandonment (BoA) documents, technical Scopes of Work (SOW), cost estimates, and formal input for regulatory submission packages
Ensure all engineering solutions are robust,



fit-for-purpose, and adhere to relevant Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and internal Santos engineering practices
Coordinate effectively with internal departments (HSE, Production, Logistics) and external contractors to ensure project milestones are met on schedule
Identify and mitigate project risks early in the lifecycle, ensuring all decommissioning activities comply with regulatory requirements and environmental regulations
Provide technical oversight during site visits (offshore and onshore) to ensure field execution aligns with the project engineering plan
What you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant science
Significant proven experience in a project engineering role within the Oil & Gas sector
Demonstrated familiarity with late-life asset management, decommissioning principles, or major brownfield modification projects
Proven ability to manage work scopes in both offshore field environments and onshore office/industrial settings
Solid understanding of project management phases and methodologies (scheduling, budgeting, and risk management)
Excellent ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and manage external service providers
Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into actionable project plans
Demonstrated ability to drive safety culture, particularly in high-hazard decommissioning environments
