About the Role
The Child Health Nurse provides comprehensive, culturally safe, and family-centred health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in Broome and surrounding communities, supporting the early years of life through developmental assessments, immunisation, parenting support, and health promotion activities.
You will contribute to early identification and intervention for developmental, social and emotional issues, working collaboratively with GPs, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Allied Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing teams, and ensuring care is holistic, evidence-based, and consistent with the BRAMS Model of Care and Quality Care Framework.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Conducting 715 child health checks, developmental assessments, immunisations, and growth monitoring from birth to five years, using recognised evidence-based screening tools.
Identifying developmental, nutritional, emotional, and psychosocial concerns, and providing early intervention or referrals to GPs, Allied Health or SEWB teams.
Undertaking home visits, outreach clinics, and community-based consultations that reflect cultural safety,
flexibility and family-centred practice.
Actively managing routine child health recalls, including the Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) list, and supporting the recall management system when required.
Providing health education and practical parenting support in areas including feeding, sleep, attachment, toilet training and behaviour.
Assessing and managing common childhood conditions and skin, ear or respiratory issues under clinical guidelines.
Identifying and responding to risk factors relating to family violence, neglect or child protection in line with mandatory reporting requirements.
Planning, delivering, and evaluating health promotion and prevention activities, including group education, antenatal transition and parenting programs.
Working collaboratively with GPs, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Allied Health and SEWB teams to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
Maintaining comprehensive, accurate documentation in MMEx and ensuring timely completion of reports and forms.
