About the Opportunity
n
We are a rapidly growing scale-up focused on cleaner, more efficient lithium extraction, particularly the processing of Australian spodumene and other lithium containing materials. Sitting in the R&D; team, the Research Assistant will partner closely with our Research Scientists, R&D; Operations Manager and CTO on exciting projects to refine Novalith's existing processes and develop our science further.

The ideal candidate should have relevant experience in a chemical, metallurgical, or mineral resources laboratory, knowledge of GLP and WHS, and possess excellent technical skills. This is a full time position with opportunities for growth and learning in an exciting, young industry.

Responsibilities
n
n
Undertake and assist in the research, design, development and operation of the Company's laboratory and pilot plant equipment, contributing to the development of Novalith's technologies.
n
Assist in the design and setup of reactor systems, gas handling, concentration systems and related equipment.
n
Conduct laboratory tests and experiments to support our lithium-recovery process,
following established protocols for sample preparation, analysis and data recording.
n
Operate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and calibration.
n
Assist in data analysis of analytical characterisation and experimental data, and maintain accurate records of results, observations, procedures and any deviations.
n
Conduct background research and literature reviews relating to projects.
n
Participate in fieldwork or pilot plant trials as needed.
n
Perform general support tasks including sourcing and updating materials inventory, equipment and supplies.
n
Prepare technical reports and present findings at internal company meetings.
n
Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues that arise during testing and assist in developing new testing methods or improvements to existing ones.
n
Promote a safe working environment by adhering to WHS regulations and taking responsibility for secure laboratory operations.
n

About the ideal Candidate
n
n
A University Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
n
Minimum 2 years' relevant research assistant or chemical/metallurgical laboratory experience or equivalent.
n
Previous hands-on experience conducting experiments, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
n
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), familiarity with Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) regulations,
and an ability to promote a safe working environment.
n
Good knowledge of thermodynamics and kinetics; experience with R&D; commercialisation, mineral leaching and mineral carbonation is desirable.
n
Ability to lift/carry up to 25 kg and torque bolts up to 65+ Nm when required for experimental setups or equipment maintenance tasks.
n
Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and laboratory programs, with strong quantitative and analytical skills and good record keeping.
n
Class C NSW Driver's License or equivalent.
n
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and autonomously, with strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
n
Enthusiasm for working within a multicultural team.

Position type: Full-time, permanent.
n
Salary range: $80,000 to $95,000 base per annum, plus superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
