Are you an experienced accountant who likes getting beyond the numbers and understanding why they look the way they do?
This is a newly created Company Accountant position within an established Australian business, offering the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the internal accounting function and become a trusted source of financial information for management.You'll take responsibility for monthly financial reporting, ERP financial integrity, inventory and costing, providing management with accurate and timely visibility across performance, margins and working capital.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable getting into the detail, investigating discrepancies and improving the systems and processes behind the numbers.Why Make the Move?
$140,000–$160,000 + superBonus structure with OTE of $155,000–$175,000Newly created role with genuine ownershipDirect impact on commercial decision-makingWork closely with managementStrong focus on ERP, inventory and costingOpportunity to improve systems, processes and financial controlsEstablished business with an experienced management teamFlexibility for four days per week or school hours for the right candidateNo payroll or HR responsibilitiesThe OpportunityAs Company Accountant, you'll own the internal accounting function and provide management with accurate, meaningful financial information they can use to make better commercial decisions.Your responsibilities will include:Preparing monthly management accountsManaging month-end journals and adjustmentsMaintaining and reconciling the general ledgerPreparing balance sheet reconciliationsReporting on aged inventory and aged receivablesPreparing monthly and year-to-date budget variance reportingCash-flow forecasting and working capital monitoringPreparing monthly Business Activity StatementsSupporting budgeting and forecastingLiaising with the external accountant for year-end accounts and tax returnsYou'll also prepare a comprehensive monthly workpaper pack supporting the accounts and ensure management has confidence in the financial information being reported.
ERP, Inventory & CostingThis is where the position becomes a little different from a traditional Company Accountant role.A significant part of your responsibility will be ensuring the integrity of inventory, costing and financial data within the ERP system.You'll:Maintain accurate product, inventory and costing dataReconcile ERP inventory and costing information against the financial accountsAnalyse inventory and procurement from a financial perspectiveReport on product costs and marginsMonitor purchasing costs and inventory movementsIdentify discrepancies and investigate their root causeImprove financial controls and reporting processesImprove the quality and reliability of financial and ERP dataThe objective isn't simply to identify that something doesn't reconcile.
You'll be expected to understand why, work through the underlying data or process issue and explain its commercial impact clearly to management.
For this position, SAP experience is essential.We're looking for someone who understands how transactional information flows through an ERP system and ultimately impacts the financial accounts.You'll be comfortable interrogating data, identifying issues and working through them rather than simply accepting what the system produces.Experience working with inventory and product costing, particularly within a manufacturing, wholesale or distribution environment, will be highly regarded.RequirementsYou'll be a practical, commercially minded accountant who enjoys taking ownership.Ideally,



you'll bring:Strong hands-on accounting experienceMonth-end and general ledger experienceExperience preparing management accountsStrong balance sheet reconciliation and workpaper capabilitySAP experienceStrong ERP and data capabilityInventory and product costing experienceUnderstanding of cash flow and working capitalStrong analytical and problem-solving abilityConfidence investigating discrepancies through to root causeAbility to communicate financial information clearly to managementA self-directed approach and willingness to challenge data when something doesn't look rightCA, CPA or IPA qualifications are preferred, although strong relevant experience will also be considered.
