We are seeking an experienced Substation Technician to play a critical role in the planning, maintenance, commissioning and operational support of high voltage substation assets across transmission and distribution networks.

This hands-on role combines field-based technical work with collaboration across engineering, asset management and project delivery teams. You will be responsible for supporting the safe and reliable operation of primary plant equipment while contributing to major projects, maintenance programs and fault response activities across a diverse portfolio of HV assets.

About the role

As a Substation Technician, you will:





- Plan and execute maintenance activities for primary plant and equipment within high voltage substations.
- Support the delivery of maintenance programs and major equipment outages.
- Collaborate with asset management teams to develop outage scopes, isolation requirements and work schedules.
- Utilise SCADA systems and HMI interfaces to support remote switching operations.
- Develop maintenance strategies and work plans aligned with client and OEM requirements.
- Investigate faults and perform troubleshooting activities on primary plant equipment.
- Interpret OEM documentation, drawings and operational manuals to support fault diagnosis and rectification.
- Undertake commissioning and maintenance activities on substations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and renewable energy assets.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering teams regarding constructability, compliance and industry standards.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation relating to maintenance, commissioning and project activities.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying emerging technologies and best practice approaches within the industry.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Electrical trade qualifications.




- Extensive experience working on transmission and distribution substations from 11kV to 330kV.
- Robust knowledge of primary plant equipment, maintenance practices and substation operations.
- Experience planning and executing equipment inspections, overhauls and fault-finding activities.
- Understanding of relevant industry standards, policies and procedures.
- Experience working with Network Service Providers and their design, construction and approval processes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Familiarity with a range of primary plant manufacturers and equipment.
- Knowledge of 48V and 110V DC substation battery systems, ideally Magellan and Century Yuasa systems.
- Solid problem-solving, leadership and critical thinking capabilities.

Highly regarded

- Nationally recognised HV Plant Operating qualifications, including switching and switching plan development.
- Experience conducting HV switching activities.
- Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing.
- Experience supporting commissioning and maintenance activities on BESS and renewable energy assets.
