Project Engineer (Full-Time)

Annual Salary: $130,000 plus superannuation

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer with a mechanical engineering background to join the WEM Water team. Reporting to the Operations Director, this role will support the delivery of water and sewer infrastructure projects from planning through to construction, testing and commissioning. Working closely with project and site teams, the Project Engineer will provide technical support and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to required standards.
In this position, your key responsibilities include:
Engineering & Technical
- Apply engineering principles to the planning, installation, testing and commissioning of water and sewer infrastructure and associated mechanical systems.
- Review engineering drawings, designs and specifications to identify technical requirements, constructability issues and engineering risks.
- Provide technical support for pipework, pumps, valves, fittings, mechanical equipment and associated infrastructure.
- Review equipment and material selections for compliance with specifications, engineering standards and water authority requirements.
- Identify and assist in resolving technical and engineering issues during construction and commissioning.
- Liaise with designers, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors regarding engineering requirements.
- Monitor installation and construction activities for compliance with approved drawings, specifications and engineering requirements.
Testing, Commissioning & Conformance
- Coordinate inspection, testing and commissioning, including pressure testing, CCTV inspections and equipment testing.
- Review test results to confirm compliance with specifications, engineering standards and authority requirements.
- Identify defects, performance issues and non-conformances and coordinate corrective actions.
- Maintain testing, commissioning and quality records.
- Coordinate connections, WAE/as-constructed documentation, approvals and final handover.
Project Delivery
- Coordinate project mobilisation, approvals, documentation, site readiness and pre-construction requirements.
- Coordinate procurement of materials, mechanical equipment, plant and components in line with project specifications.
- Support project programming, monitor milestones and identify potential delays.
- Coordinate activities with site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings, maintain project records and follow up agreed actions.
- Assist with project budgets, costs, forecasts, variations, scope changes and financial performance.
- Assist with RFIs, EOTs, progress claims, project correspondence, subcontractor claims and invoice reviews.
- Ensure additional works are documented and approved before commencement.
Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate subcontractors, contractors and suppliers to meet project, technical, safety and quality requirements.
- Assist with subcontractor scopes, variations,
claims and invoices.
- Maintain effective relationships with clients, WSCs, water authorities, consultants and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate stakeholder inspections, approvals and connections.
Team & Site Support
- Provide technical and engineering support to project teams.
- Work with Team Leaders to communicate project priorities, program and technical requirements.
- Build positive and effective working relationships across project teams.
- Support and provide guidance to junior team members where required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant engineering discipline, or an equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
- Experience in an engineering role supporting the delivery of water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with the installation, testing and commissioning of pipework, pumps, valves, mechanical equipment or associated systems.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation and resolving engineering issues during project delivery.
- Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers and site teams in relation to technical and engineering requirements.
- Understanding of contract administration, variations, budgeting, cost control and project reporting.
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Current Driver Licence and NSW White Card
- Able to manage competing priorities and work effectively independently and within a project team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work safely and comply with all site safety standards
