The Role
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Underwriter will provide underwriting advice and technical support within their delegated authority. You will work closely with brokers to develop a profitable portfolio while delivering a high level of service. The role includes preparing new business and renewal quotes, processing endorsements and policy adjustments, resolving underwriting queries and building strong relationships with new and existing brokers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate risks in line with underwriting guidelines and delegated authority
- Prepare and issue recent business, renewal and endorsement quotes
- Review proposal forms and ensure underwriting requirements have been met
- Respond to broker enquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Provide practical underwriting solutions and technical support to brokers
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing brokers
- Underwrite profitable business in line with MECON's risk appetite
- Maintain accurate policy documentation and complete required administration
- Work closely with colleagues and managers to support consistent underwriting practices
- Assist and provide guidance to junior underwriting team members
- Attend broker visits and industry events where appropriate
- Contribute to continuous improvement across the underwriting team
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous underwriting experience within the insurance industry
- Strong risk assessment and decision-making skills
- A good understanding of underwriting guidelines and delegated authorities
- Strong administration skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work with minimal supervision
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support other team members
- Experience with non-standard endorsements and policy wordings
- Confidence using underwriting systems and Microsoft Office programs
- Full Australian working rights with no restrictions
