OUR VISION

Dardi Munwurro (Strong Spirit) is a specialist Aboriginal family violence service. Our vision is to build stronger families and safer communities.

We aim to empower and inspire individuals to heal the past, acknowledge the present and create a positive vision for the future.

We do this by delivering a range of family violence programs to break the cycle of inter-generational trauma in Aboriginal families and communities.

OUR WORK

Dardi Munwurro was established in 2000 to provide group leadership training programs tailored to Aboriginal men and youth.

Our programs are designed to assist First Peoples to identify their emotions and personal strengths, and in doing so, discover their own responsibility.

We support First Peoples to express purpose and develop a vision for their future.

DETAILS ABOUT THE ROLE & PROGRAM

Key Responsibilities

Cultural support encompasses cultural education, personal development, community engagement, and advocacy that enhances diversity and inclusion. It not only helps individuals understand and appreciate First Nation perspectives but also fosters an environment of respect and collaboration. The cultural support role extends beyond traditional mentoring practices to include the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage and identity.

The Cultural Support role will be to:

- Nurture client relationships to allow individuals to feel valued and connected
- Advocate for individual’s surroundings and circumstances, and on healing and prevention
- Support the cultural, spiritual, and personal development of individuals
- Encourage individuals to participate in community events, ceremonies, and initiatives to strengthen their sense of belonging and community responsibility.
- Provide a safe space where participants can openly discuss cultural differences, experiences, and learning opportunities
- Promote resilience and self-determination to individuals
- Empower individuals to navigate their personal and professional lives effectively while remaining grounded in their cultural heritage
- Role model the cultural values and principles including respect, humility, and integrity.
- Share lived experiences that highlight both the challenges and successes in navigating life as a member of a First Nation.
- Contribute to support for individuals into long term housing, secure employment, stable income, education and work with them to improve their wellbeing.




- Promote a strong collaboration between ACCO’s, the Justice and Community Services sectors to ensure there are cultural appropriate responses and monitor a safe and accurate information sharing process
- Build partnership with ACCO’s and NGO’s to better support the wider intersectionality of each individual
- Help change individual’s narrative so the depiction of them is more accurate and less stigmatising.
- Work to remove barriers and facilitate access to resources and opportunities for individuals
- Encourage Elders and or respected community members to play a role in prevention and healing of individuals
- Engage with Elders and other community leaders to ensure that mentorship practices align with cultural teachings and expectations.
- Stay informed about current issues facing Indigenous communities to provide relevant and informed guidance
- Seek learning opportunities to support best practice in cultural ways of working
- Regularly reflect on and assess mentoring practices to ensure they remain effective and culturally relevant.

Key Organisational Accountabilities

- Adhere to the Dardi Munwurro Code of Conduct and values at all times
- Support and participate in Dardi Munwurro’s strategic planning
- Ensure appropriate use of resources
- Participate in debriefing and supervision support as required
- Demonstrated commitment to community participation and ongoing engagement with clients
- Carry out duties in a manner that does not negatively affect yours and the individual’s own safety or others by following the agreed procedures, reporting all incidents, injuries, near misses, as well as cooperating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve Work Health & Safety
- Participate in the revision and development of corporate policies and procedures
- Participate in Dardi Munwurro meetings and training, as required
- While at work, comply with requirements as noted in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004
- Meet all the legislative requirements related to the position, including privacy

Key Selection Criteria - Qualifications,



skills and essential competencies The successful candidates will require:

- Ability to engage with and provide trauma-informed, cultural, spiritual, and personal support to Aboriginal men involved in the justice systems
- Demonstrated understanding of the underlying issues that contribute to Aboriginal men’s incarceration and experiences post release from prison
- Demonstrated knowledge of the service system and resources available to support men with housing, employment and community connection needs and aspirations
- Commitment to role-modelling Dardi Munwurro’s values of Diversity, Accountability, Respect, Determination and Integrity
- Demonstrated experience collaborating and managing effective relationships with diverse stakeholders including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations, Police, Corrections, health service providers, child and family services
- Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to create and maintain case plans, reports and other documents

- Current Victorian Drivers’ License

We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants for this position. We are seeking to establish a gender inclusive team. This position requires regular travel and work in different locations from greater Melbourne to Gippsland and the Peninsula.

All candidates must satisfy a National Police Check and a Working With Children Check.

As a child safe organisation, employment with Dardi is subject to a satisfactory national (and international where relevant) police check and relevant Working with Children Check to your State prior to commencement of any paid or unpaid work and/or participation in any service or undertaking. It is a condition of employment that all eligible workforce receive the COVID-19 vaccination and supporting evidence may be requested in order to perform duties at any of Uniting’s workplaces.
