AOD Counsellor (Identified* and Females Only*)

This is a full-time fixed term to 30 June 2028 position based in Bega. This position forms part of the Katungul Stay Strong – Alcohol and Other Drugs Treatment Program.

As an AOD Counsellor you will be providing culturally sensitive support services to Aboriginal clients and community members impacted by drugs and alcohol. The role involves providing individual support work, running groups and community education.

*This role is open to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised in Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

- Provide one-on-one and group support services to Aboriginal people with substance misuse issues including early intervention or post-rehabilitation support.
- Service delivery may encompass referrals to rehabilitation centres; help accessing Katungul GP’s for medical detox; information; case work; court/police support; clinical appointments support; critical support to youth in the community; and home visiting.
- Develop and coordinate community education initiatives, events and activities to support drug and alcohol awareness, education and prevention.
- Build and maintain solid relationships with local services and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated, holistic support.
- Undertaking client assessment, case planning, monitoring, exit planning and follow up.
- Maintain detailed case notes, data collection and reporting to track progress and outcomes.





What we’re looking for

- Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or willing to obtain within 12 months.
- Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal communities.
- Experience in providing one‑on‑one support to clients experiencing substance misuse issues.
- Demonstrated experience working to trauma‑informed practices.
- Excellent culturally appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in facilitating groups, conducting community events or running projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues and barriers that impact upon the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
- Ability to collect data, write reports and client notes.

- Remuneration: $40.49/hr – $50.25/hr + Super + NFP Salary Packaging.
