BWE Drilling - Drill & Blast
Our Drill & Blast division delivers full production drilling and specialised blasting services across mining and civil projects. Services are designed to achieve high productivity while minimising impact on surrounding environments and active operations.
BWE Drilling - Exploration
Our Exploration division is an established drilling contractor supporting exploration and mining programs with Air Core, Reverse Circulation and Diamond Drilling services. The team works across diverse greenfield and brownfield projects in Australia.
BWE Drilling - Waterwell
Our Waterwell division specialises in water bore drilling and well services, operating across local government and Tier 1 mining clients in Australia. Projects range from mine‑site water supply to deep artesian bore drilling.
Purpose of the Role
The Blast Hole Drill Trainer is responsible for developing trainee drillers and upskilling existing drill crews through a combination of simulator-based and field-based training. The role focuses on building operator competency, promoting protected and productive drilling practices, and supporting workforce development across operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and Deliver structured training programs using the drilling simulator.
- Train and mentor trainee drillers to progress into operational drilling positions.
- Provide practical field-based coaching and support to existing drill operators.
- Produce and Conduct competency assessments and maintain accurate training records.
- Identify skill gaps and develop improvement plans for personnel.
- Promote and reinforce safe work practices, company procedures, and operational standards.
- Assist with long term development of drilling personnel.
- Work closely with Operations and Training & Compliance teams to support workforce capability.
- Participate in investigations, reviews, and corrective actions relating to training and competency where required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to drilling performance and training outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive Blast Hole Drilling experience.
- Previous experience as a Senior Driller, Drill Supervisor, Trainer, or similar leadership role.
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or 40122) as a minimum.
- Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and developing personnel.
- Sound understanding of drilling systems, equipment, and operational best practices.
- Strong knowledge of safety, risk management, and compliance requirements.
- Current and valid HR driver's licence.
- Current Loader/Forklift RII desirable

Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Operations Manager / Site Manager.
- Functional relationship with: Training & Compliance Manager.
This role will split time between simulator-based training and field-based coaching to ensure personnel develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to operate safely and effectively in a production environment.
