The Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) is established under the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Act 2024 (the Act) to provide independent advice to the Minister for Defence, on matters relating to naval nuclear power safety and the functions of the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR).

The Committee brings together members with expertise across relevant technical, operational, regulatory, governance and policy disciplines to advise the Minister in on matters related to the operation of the Act, the performance of the functions of the Regulator, and the suitability of arrangements adopted to ensure nuclear safety.

This is an prospect to contribute to one of the most significant national capability programs in Australia’s history and to support the development of a world-leading naval nuclear power safety framework. As a member of the Committee, you will be expected to apply your expertise, professional judgement and experience to provide independent advice to the Minister for Defence,



on matters relating to naval nuclear power safety.

Defence is seeking candidates with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Nuclear engineering, safety and regulation, and reactor operations;
- Safety and risk management systems and assurance;
- High-hazard industries, radiological safety, and environmental protection;
- Regulatory design and administration;
- Maritime, defence or submarine operations;
- Science, technology and engineering disciplines relevant to naval nuclear propulsion;
- Governance, public administration and strategic leadership.
