Lead Data Analyst | 6-Month FTC | Melbourne
I’m currently recruiting for a Lead Data Analyst to join a large, complex organisation and play a key role across firm-wide data, analytics and transformation initiatives.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced, commercially minded analyst who loves getting into the detail of data, finding the story behind the numbers and using insights to influence senior decision-making.
The initial contract is 6 months to cover maternity leave, with a strong possibility of extension.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll sit within a small, collaborative Data & Insights team, working across a broad range of business initiatives. This is a senior individual contributor role — you won’t have direct reports, but you’ll help mentor and support less experienced analysts.
The role will combine hands-on analytics with senior stakeholder engagement, including:
- Investigating datasets to uncover anomalies, trends and hidden insights
- Turning complex analysis into clear, compelling data stories and actionable recommendations
- Partnering with senior stakeholders and adapting your communication style to different audiences
- Proactively identifying business problems where data can make a difference — rather than simply waiting for requests
- Delivering commercial analytics and insights across firm-wide initiatives
- Supporting projects involving HubSpot CRM, Amazon Connect, Workday, SharePoint, Finance and Innovation
- Working closely with Data Engineers and understanding how data architecture and curated data layers support analytics
- Troubleshooting reporting, data relationships, KPIs and underlying issues
- Helping evolve data and analytics best practice across the organisation
- Sharing knowledge and mentoring junior members of the team
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running and operate comfortably in a smaller team where you may need to wear several hats.
You’ll ideally bring:
- 5+ years' experience in hands-on analytics, commercial analytics or a similar discipline
- Strong SQL and experience working with relational data
- Experience with Power BI and/or Qlik
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills — you enjoy interrogating the data, not just visualising it
- Experience taking analytical projects end-to-end, from understanding the business problem through to insight and recommendation
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to translate "data speak" into clear business language
- Strong commercial acumen and curiosity
- An understanding of data architecture and how data flows through an organisation
- A proactive mindset — someone who sees a problem, asks the right questions and goes looking for the answer
Most importantly, you’ll be curious, team-oriented and genuinely passionate about data.
If you’re someone who enjoys finding the insight that others have missed and turning it into something that can genuinely influence a business decision, this could be a great opportunity.
