The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced higher education academic and creative industries professional to lead the Animation and Game Design disciplines at JMC Academy’s Brisbane campus. Reporting to the Head of Faculty, Animation, Design & Leadership, and working closely with the National Course Leaders for Animation and Game Design, the Department Lead will provide academic and operational leadership across the Brisbane-based offering.

Working collaboratively with academic leaders, teaching teams, students and industry partners, you will:

- Lead the delivery and academic quality of Animation and Game Design programs at the Brisbane campus
- Foster a culture of teaching excellence, creativity, collaboration, innovation and industry relevance
- Lead, mentor and develop academic and technical teams
- Support curriculum development and ensure local delivery aligns with national course standards
- Enhance student engagement, progression, retention and academic outcomes
- Build industry partnerships that create live briefs, work-integrated learning and skilled opportunities
- Drive digital teaching innovation, including the use of Canvas and emerging learning technologies
- Support research, scholarship and creative practice that strengthens discipline currency and teaching excellence




- Support student recruitment, conversion, marketing, Open Days, outreach and showcase activities
- Ensure academic quality, compliance and effective management of local resources and budgets

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the student experience and the continued growth and evolution of Animation and Game Design at JMC Academy.

About You

You are an experienced higher education academic and creative practitioner who is passionate about developing talented students and preparing them for successful careers in the rapidly evolving creative industries.

You will bring

- A tertiary qualification relevant to the discipline at AQF Level 8 or higher, with a Master’s qualification highly regarded, or equivalent demonstrated industry standing
- Significant professional and industry experience within animation, game design or a related creative discipline
- Substantial higher education teaching and academic leadership experience
- Experience leading academic teams, including staff performance, recruitment, induction and capability development
- Strong understanding of contemporary creative practice, digital technologies and the evolving animation and game design industries




- An established industry network and experience developing meaningful partnerships and professional opportunities for students
- Knowledge of Australian higher education regulatory, quality assurance and compliance frameworks
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, people leadership, organisational and commercial skills, including budget management

Professionals with experience in Animation, Game Design, Digital Arts, Visual Communication, Interactive Media, Creative Technology or related creative disciplines are encouraged to apply.
