Established in 2017, the Housing Hub was created to help people with disability find suitable, quality housing and support the development of an effective disability housing market. Originally an initiative of the Summer Foundation, we now operate as a social enterprise. With thousands of properties listed across Australia, the Housing Hub connects housing seekers and housing providers, making it easier for people with disability to find the right home and have choice and control over where they live and who they live with.
About the role
This is a rare opportunity to lead the development of a brand-new digital product from concept through to launch and beyond. As Digital Product Manager, you’ll lead the development of a new search, find and book platform with intake functionality, taking it from discovery and co-design through to design, build, launch and monitoring.
You’ll work closely with users, designers, engineers and internal teams to turn user needs into a product that delivers real value. You’ll also support the go to market strategy to launch the product into the market and monitor the launch closely. Following the pilot, you’ll support its transition into business as usual and future growth.
This role sits within the Growth and Innovation team and reports directly to the Chief Development Officer.
The Team
The Growth and Innovation team is responsible for:
- Identifying and developing new products and services
- Taking ideas from early concepts through to products people can visualise, understand and use
- Undertaking market research, discovery and testing
- Developing business cases and securing funding for new products and services
- Leading the development and launch of new Housing Hub products and services
- Creating products that add value to the disability housing market while contributing to organisational growth and revenue
- Building relationships with key stakeholders across the sector
- Measuring and reporting on product performance to continuously improve products and initiatives
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Design
- Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle for the new pilot across planning, design, build, launch and monitoring
- Understand the market, competitors and users to identify opportunities and inform product decisions
- Facilitate and support co-design with housing seekers, supporters and providers
- Translate user insights and business needs into clear product requirements
- Oversee interactive and UI design and approve concepts
- Create and maintain the product backlog and translate requirements into Jira cards
- Define and monitor product KPIs and measures of success
Technical Implementation & Delivery
- Lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of the wider project team, including outsourced software engineers, QA engineers and UX/UI designers
- Work closely with engineers and designers to ensure the product is delivered in line with agreed requirements, scope and timelines
- Manage the agile development process, including sprint planning and daily team updates
- Coordinate QA and lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Manage bug monitoring and resolution throughout development
- Support the development team by answering questions and making timely product decisions
- Ensure privacy, accessibility, security and risk requirements are incorporated throughout development, including penetration testing where required
Project Management & Governance
- Act as the primary Project Manager for the pilot, working closely with the Project Sponsor and existing Digital Product Manager
- Maintain the Project Plan, Risk Register and relevant compliance documentation
- Identify, assess and manage risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place
- Monitor project scope, timelines and budget and proactively manage issues and dependencies
- Track project expenditure, including employment and outsourced costs
- Provide regular reporting on project progress, KPIs and key data to the Executive Leadership Team and Board
- Ensure product and project documentation is maintained to support effective delivery and minimise risk
Go-to-Market & Operations
- Work with the Go-to-Market Consultant, Chief Development Officer and other stakeholders to develop and deliver the launch strategy
- Contribute to the product charter and operational procedures
- Prepare internal teams for launch, including training relevant Digital, Sales and Support staff
- Monitor the product following launch against agreed KPIs, including user uptake, purchases and surplus generation
- Gather feedback and insights to understand what is working and where improvements are needed
Scale Up
- Identify and prioritise continuous improvement opportunities following launch
- Develop product documentation, operational playbooks and processes to support the transition into business as usual
- Use product insights and market feedback to inform future development and growth
- Contribute to business development activities that support the product’s future success
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years’ experience owning and delivering digital products
- Proven experience taking a digital product from discovery and design through to build, launch and monitoring
- The ability to take a user need, idea or problem expressed in plain language and turn it into clear product requirements and technical tasks that designers and developers can act on
- Experience developing functional requirements, managing product backlogs and translating requirements into Jira cards
- Strong experience working with engineers, UX/UI designers and QA teams to deliver digital products
- Experience leading product discovery, co-design, prototyping and user testing
- Experience with booking or marketplace platforms, such as real estate, travel or similar, would be highly regarded (highly desirable)
- Strong understanding of agile product development
- Experience managing project risks, budgets and delivery in a complex environment
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions and keep delivery moving
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data and user feedback to measure and improve a product
- Knowledge of privacy, security and compliance requirements for digital products
- Experience working across diverse stakeholder groups and bringing people together around a product vision
- Experience leading and managing software engineers, including distributed or offshore teams
- Experience working in an NFP or purpose-driven organisation would be advantageous
