ZCG Scalar is an Australian-owned manufacturer specialising in RF, antenna and communications solutions. With more than 50 years of manufacturing experience, we design, develop, manufacture and test products for customers across Defence, emergency services, broadcasting, critical communications, infrastructure, transport, mining and other specialised industries.

Our products are designed and manufactured locally at our facility in Lindenow, East Gippsland, giving our engineering and manufacturing teams the opportunity to work closely together from initial concept through to finished product.

We are currently looking for a Draftsman / CAD Technician to join our team and support our growing engineering, R&D; and manufacturing operations.

About the Role

Reporting into our Engineering and Operations functions, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining accurate CAD drawings and technical documentation supporting both new product development and existing manufacturing operations.

This is a practical drafting role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel and wants to see their designs and drawings progress into real-world products.

You will be involved in a varied range of projects, from developing drawings for new products and prototypes through to updating existing production drawings and supporting manufacturing improvements.

Key Responsibilities

- Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings.

- Prepare manufacturing, fabrication and assembly drawings.

- Develop drawings from engineering concepts, sketches, measurements and existing components.

- Support Engineering and R&D; with recent product development and prototyping.





- Work closely with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs are practical, accurate and production-ready.

- Measure and document existing components, assemblies and products.

- Maintain drawing revisions and engineering documentation.

- Assist with Bills of Materials (BoMs), drawing registers and associated technical documentation.

- Update and improve existing drawings and product documentation.

- Ensure drawings comply with relevant specifications, standards and internal quality requirements.

- Provide drafting support across production, engineering, R&D; and other areas of the business as required.

About You

We are looking for a technically minded and detail-oriented person who takes pride in producing accurate work.

You will ideally have

- Previous experience in drafting, CAD or a similar engineering/manufacturing environment, or a passion to learn.

- Competent 2D and/or 3D CAD skills.

- The ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and measurements.

- An understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances and fabrication.

- Robust attention to detail and accuracy.

- Good organisational and document-control skills.

- The ability to communicate effectively with engineers, tradespeople and other team members.

- A practical approach to problem solving.





- The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a small, collaborative team.

Experience with sheet-metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, RF equipment, antennas or communications products will be highly regarded.

Experience with CAD/CAM packages – e.g. SolidWorks / AutoCAD / BrisCAD / MasterCAM will also be highly regarded.
