Disability Support Worker – Children, Autism & Complex Behaviours
Health On Call Pty Ltd is seeking experienced and compassionate Disability Support Workers to provide individualised support to children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), intellectual disability, developmental disorders and behaviours of concern.
We are specifically looking for support workers who have experience working with children with complex behavioural and emotional needs and who can remain calm, patient and professional in challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities
As a Disability Support Worker, your responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one support to children and young people in their home and community
- Supporting children with Autism, ADHD, ODD, intellectual disability and other developmental or behavioural conditions
- Supporting emotional regulation and managing behaviours of concern using secure, positive and person-centred approaches
- Following individual Behaviour Support Plans and recommended strategies
- Identifying potential triggers and using proactive strategies to reduce escalation
- Using positive behaviour support and appropriate de-escalation techniques
- Maintaining consistent routines, boundaries and support strategies
- Supporting communication, including visual communication or AAC strategies where required
- Assisting with daily living skills and personal care where required
- Supporting community access, recreational activities and social participation
- Encouraging independence, confidence and development of age-appropriate life skills
- Working collaboratively with parents, carers,
Behaviour Support Practitioners and allied health professionals
- Monitoring and reporting changes in behaviour or support needs
- Completing accurate progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation
- Maintaining the child's dignity, privacy, safety and wellbeing at all times
About You We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in supporting children or young people with Autism and behaviours of concern
- Patient, calm and emotionally resilient
- Confident responding to challenging or escalating behaviours
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships with children
- Able to follow Behaviour Support Plans and established routines consistently
- Professional when communicating with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Reliable, responsible and committed to providing high-quality support
- Able to understand that behaviour can be a form of communication and look beyond the behaviour to identify the person's needs
Previous experience with Autism, ADHD, ODD, intellectual disability, emotional dysregulation, sensory processing difficulties, trauma or complex behaviours will be highly regarded.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working in disability, behavioural support, youth work, mental health or a similar field
- Experience supporting children and/or young people with complex needs
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Valid driver's licence
- Reliable vehicle
- Australian working rights
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to complete professional progress notes and incident documentation
Relevant qualifications in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services, Youth Work, Mental Health, Education Support or a related field are highly regarded.
Desirable Experience
Experience or training in any of the following would be advantageous:

- Trauma-informed care
- De-escalation and behaviour management
- AAC and visual communication
- Sensory regulation strategies
- Restrictive practices awareness
- Mental health support
- Complex/high-intensity disability support

Pay: $33.00 – $57.20 per hour
Expected hours: 2.0 – 20.0 per week
