About the Role The primary purpose of the Flow Cytometry Officer is to deliver outstanding customer service by providing specialist research advice and technical support for TRI research activities. To be successful in the role, you will understand and be able to support facility operations, deliver excellent customer service, train and support users, and comply with legislation, regulations, policies and procedures and SOPS. You will need to be highly organised, have attention to detail, and be motivated to learn new skills in a biomedical/preclinical and clinical research setting.

This role is offered on a Maximum-Term Contract for up to 12 Months. It is Part-time, 22.8 hours per week (0.6 FTE).





Key Selection Criteria

Experience The Flow Cytometry Officer will have experience in the following:

- Demonstrated experience in flow cytometry, including data acquisition using conventional and spectral flow cytometers, and data analysis using a range of software packages
- Operating droplet-based cell sorters
- Experience in the design, optimisation and troubleshooting of flow cytometry panels and assays, with a strong understanding of fluorophore technologies and experimental design
- Working in a core facility environment focused on service delivery, user training and interaction with a variety of users, in a research environment
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering practical training for complex instrumentation and educational seminars for users
- Proven ability to develop, document and implement technical procedures, protocols, training materials and new methods to support research, commercial and full-service projects
- Demonstrated ability to perform cleaning, quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring of complex flow cytometry and associated laboratory instrumentation, while maintaining accurate equipment maintenance records is desirable
- Experience in a variety of flow cytometry software including FlowJo, OMIQ, FCS Express, SpectroFlo, IDEAS and/or FACS Diva is desirable




- Analysis of complex flow cytometric data by unsupervised means including clustering and dimensionality reduction is desirable
- Experience in immunology techniques and protocols; and proficiency in preparing samples for a wide variety of flow cytometry assays, including immunophenotyping, intracellular staining, apoptosis and cell cycle analysis is desirable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Broad scientific and technical knowledge of flow cytometry principles, applications and emerging technologies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a methodical and accurate approach to work
- Ability to work independently and within a team, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of relevant WHS, ethical and legislative requirements, with experience developing SOPs and contributing to quality management systems
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and commitment to learning, quality improvement and the adoption of recent technologies
- Excellent communication, training and user engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and build positive relationships with researchers and students

Qualifications

- BSc (Hons) with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- A research higher degree (MSc/PhD) having strong utilisation of flow cytometry within it as to address biological questions would be desirable.
