Aviair, formerly known as Slingair, was founded in 1984 and has been under local Kununurra ownership since April 2016. We are a multi-award-winning regional airline, with significant operations in Kununurra, Broome, and Karratha. With in-house aircraft maintenance facilities, we have approximately thirty aircraft. Our business is founded on the twin principles of safety and service – both being areas where we will not compromise.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Ground Operations Manager at our Broome base to oversee the ground operations across the entire Aviair network.

As the Ground Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role in ensuring each base operates ground handling, freight, dangerous goods and aircraft presentation to consistent standards. A strong focus on safety, accuracy, and communication is essential.

Key Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

- Manage ground handling arrangements for Aviair and Nexus Airlines operations, including aircraft arrival and departure support, passenger movement and freight activities.
- Ensure ground operations are adequately prepared for the daily flying program and communicating any emerging risks or resource gaps.
- Support mobilisation of new routes and bases by identifying ground handling, equipment, and supplier requirements.
- Own and oversee the Aviair aircraft cleaning and presentation program.
- Oversee the handling, documentation and transfer of freight across Aviair bases in accordance with company standards.




- Act as the operational subject matter lead for dangerous goods and provide practical guidance where necessary.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including operational leaders, freight forwarders, warehouses, and suppliers.
- Ensure ground operations are conducted in accordance with the Safety Management System Conduct with regular base inspections, and support throughout Safety and Quality assurance audits.
- Identify capability gaps and implement practical coaching, or corrective actions to improve safety and performance.

Key skills required:

- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Current Dangerous Goods Acceptance Certificate.
- Current Forklift License.
- Manual Driver’s license (MR Preferred).
- Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate, or the ability to obtain one.
- Ability to obtain and hold ASIC.
- Knowledge of aviation ground safety, freight handling and dangerous goods requirements.
- Strong judgement and confidence managing competing priorities.
- Ability to interpret operational requirements and translate them into clear procedures.
- A team player with the ability to take ownership of the role and support other key staff within the business.
