Designer Doorware
Altona
A hands-on role for someone who can turn their hand to whatever the floor needs and do it well.
Designer Doorware has been designing and manufacturing architectural door hardware in Melbourne since 1996. Everything we make is specified into homes, apartment towers and commercial fit-outs across the country, and most of it is still cut, machined, finished and assembled by hand at our Altona factory.
The role
We’re after someone who wants more than a single station on the floor. You’ll work hands-on across various functions in our factory: Workshop, In-House Finish, Assembly, and Receiving & Dispatch, picking up new skills and moving to wherever the priority is that day.
This is a role for someone from a similar hands-on environment who can walk onto our floor, get their head around our processes quickly, and be trusted to just get on with it.
What you’ll do
● Operate hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery to cut, machine, finish and assemble hardware components to spec.
● Work across multiple functional areas: Workshop, In-House Finish, Polishing & Plating, and Assembly
● Follow assembly documents and SOPs precisely, and carry out quality checks, flagging defects before they become problems.
● Help keep production on track against daily targets and our DIFOT (Delivery In Full, On Time) commitments.
● Stay across daily priorities on the floor and flag bottlenecks or hold-ups early
● Spot and suggest process improvements; we run a genuine continuous improvement program and want people who notice what’s not working.
● Keep your work area protected, clean and organised, and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
What you’ll bring
● Workshop background in machining, carpentry, joinery, fabrication or a comparable manufacturing trade would be highly regarded.
● Experience in a similar production or workshop environment, with the ability to read a new floor, a new set of SOPs and a new team quickly.
● A reliable, positive attitude above all else: someone who turns up on time every day, pitches in without being asked twice, and brings good energy to the floor.
● Genuine interest in learning across multiple functions
● Comfort and competence with hand and power tools and general workshop equipment.
● A team-first mentality
What’s on offer
● Ongoing position with an established Melbourne manufacturer, going on 30 years in the business
● Varied, hands-on work
● A supportive, close-knit team
Pay: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38.0 per week
Work Location: In person
