Factory Manager – Steel & Aluminium Window Fabrication

About Sunwize

Sunwize is a Custom Windows & Glass Roof Solutions that is a proudly Australian-owned Melbourne business with more than 25 years' experience creating highly customised window and glass solutions.

Based in Bayswater, Sunwize specialises in bespoke residential window systems, skylights, glass roofs and pergolas, atriums, conservatories, pool enclosures and other unique architectural glass structures.

Our philosophy is simple: if you can imagine it, we can build it.

Every project is different. We work closely with homeowners, architects and builders to develop solutions tailored to the individual project — from size and glazing through to colour, finish, glass tint, pitch and operation.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Factory Manager to lead our fabrication operation in Bayswater.

This is a key role within the business. You will be responsible for taking approved designs and turning them into beautifully fabricated, high-quality finished products that are ready for installation.

Because our work is predominantly bespoke, this isn't a high-volume production-line environment. Every job can present different technical challenges, dimensions, finishes and installation requirements.

We need someone who understands fabrication, can read and interpret drawings, solve problems and organise people and production to ensure every job is completed accurately, efficiently and to a high standard.

Reporting directly to the ownership team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the factory and play an important role in developing systems and processes as Sunwize continues to grow.

Key responsibilities

- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Sunwize fabrication facility
- Lead and coordinate the fabrication team across multiple live projects
- Plan and schedule production to meet installation and project deadlines
- Review architectural drawings, shop drawings and project specifications before fabrication begins
- Ensure all measurements, dimensions, materials and fabrication details are correct before production
- Interpret bespoke designs and work through practical fabrication solutions where details require clarification
- Coordinate with management, drafting, suppliers and installation teams to ensure projects move smoothly from design through to completion
- Manage fabrication of steel and aluminium framed windows, doors and associated architectural elements
- Coordinate ordering and availability of aluminium, steel, glass, hardware, seals,

fixings and other materials
- Allocate work effectively across the workshop and monitor progress against deadlines
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, accuracy and finish
- Carry out quality control checks throughout fabrication and prior to dispatch
- Identify and resolve production issues before they become installation or project problems
- Ensure completed products are correctly protected, packaged and prepared for transport
- Coordinate with installation teams to ensure products are delivered complete and ready for site
- Maintain an organised, efficient and protected workshop
- Manage workshop equipment, tooling, materials and general factory presentation
- Develop and improve production systems, processes and efficiencies
- Help establish consistent fabrication standards as the business continues to expand its window manufacturing capabilities
- Lead, mentor and develop workshop staff
- Promote a culture of accountability, quality and pride in workmanship

About you You are an experienced fabrication professional who enjoys solving problems and takes genuine pride in the finished product.

You understand that with bespoke architectural work, accuracy matters. You are comfortable working from drawings, identifying potential issues before fabrication and finding practical solutions when a project doesn't fit neatly into a standard process.

Ideally, you will have:

- Proven experience in a fabrication, manufacturing or workshop management role
- Strong experience with aluminium and/or steel window and door fabrication
- Experience in architectural glazing, custom windows, shopfitting, metal fabrication or a related industry
- Strong understanding of workshop production processes
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, engineering drawings and shop drawings
- Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials and fabrication requirements
- Experience managing and coordinating tradespeople or fabrication teams
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Strong attention to detail
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
- Ability to manage multiple custom projects at different stages of production

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with designers, management, suppliers and installers
- A commitment to quality and high-end workmanship
- Trade qualification or strong relevant trade experience highly regarded
- Current Australian driver's licence

The type of person we're looking for This role will suit someone who is hands-on, accountable and solutions-focused.

You're the person who walks into the factory and knows what needs to happen.

You can look at a drawing and understand how it needs to be fabricated. You can identify when something doesn't look right before it gets made. You can organise the team, keep materials moving, manage deadlines and make sure the finished product is right before it leaves the factory.

You don't need to be the person doing every piece of fabrication yourself, but you do need to understand fabrication well enough to lead the people who are.

Most importantly, you take ownership. When there is a problem, you don't pass it on — you work out what needs to happen and make it happen.

Why join Sunwize?

- Join an established Australian-owned business with 25+ years of industry experience
- Work across interesting projects including custom windows, skylights, glass roofs, pergolas, atriums, conservatories and pool enclosures
- Work on genuinely bespoke architectural projects rather than repetitive production
- Play a key role in developing and growing our steel and aluminium fabrication operation
- Opportunity to improve systems, processes and the way the factory operates
- Competitive salary package, negotiable based on experience
- Long-term career opportunity within a growing business
