Are you a detail-driven finance professional who takes pride in accuracy, integrity and continuous improvement? Hepburn Shire Council is looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team and contribute to high-quality financial management across Council.

This is an opportunity to apply your technical accounting expertise across financial reporting, statutory accounting, reconciliations, asset accounting and financial analysis, while working closely with experienced finance leaders to strengthen financial controls and support informed decision-making.

Position Details

- Permanent full-time
- $87,616.88 per annum, Band 6 + superannuation
- 38 hours per week
- Daylesford-based, with travel to various sites within the municipality
- Reports to the Coordinator Finance – Sustainability

About the team

You'll be part of Council's Finance team within the Performance and Transformation Directorate, working closely with the Coordinator Finance – Sustainability and Manager Finance. You'll join a team that plays an important role in supporting Council's financial sustainability, accountability and effective decision-making.

How you'll make a difference

In this role, you'll:

- Support the preparation of Council's annual financial statements and statutory financial returns in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and local government requirements.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, journals and financial control processes, including supporting external audits.




- Support Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions, including reconciliations and resolving complex processing issues.
- Complete asset capitalisation, depreciation and disposal processes and reconcile capital works work-in-progress balances.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, providing clear financial commentary to managers and budget holders.
- Contribute to system, process and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Council's transformation agenda.

About you

We're looking for someone with relevant experience in financial accounting and statutory reporting, ideally within local government or a similarly regulated environment.

You'll bring

- Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, local government financial legislation and compliance obligations.
- Experience in financial reconciliations, asset accounting and maintaining solid financial controls.
- The ability to analyse financial data and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately with minimal supervision.

A National Criminal History Check is an essential requirement. A degree in Accounting,



Finance, Commerce or a related discipline, and eligibility for or progress toward CPA or CA membership, would be desirable.
