Role Overview

Our College is seeking a qualified candidate to lead our English department. The suitable candidate will have expertise in English curriculum and contemporary pedagogy, knowledge of QCAA requirements and practices, and the capacity to lead a high performing team of teachers. This role reports to the Deputy Principal.

- You are an active listener and a leader who engages with stakeholders, building strong positive relationships with members of the College community including staff, students, and parents.
- You can cater for students with diverse backgrounds, needs and abilities.

Responsibilities

As a Head of Department at Calvary Christian College, your responsibilities involve leading teams, influencing culture, leading continuous improvement, managing resources and engaging stakeholders. You will:

- Stay abreast of contemporary teaching and learning practices and lead the design of innovative learning practices for the English subject areas in Stages 5 and 6 (Years 9-12).



This responsibility will also require you to liaise and collaborate with leaders responsible for teaching and learning P-8 in order to ensure alignment with a seamless P-12 education journey for students and families.
- Model highly effective teaching and learning in your own practice and upskill your team to deliver engaging and evidence-based teaching that improves student outcomes.
- Take responsibility for the academic and personal growth of students and professional growth of staff by fostering a commitment to excellence; contributing to and sustaining conditions in which our staff and students thrive.
- Facilitate positive and productive touchpoints among staff, students, our parent body, and wider community, and sensitively manage issues related to student engagement and achievement in English classes. Have demonstrated skills, experience, and success in educational leadership, administration and organisation with the ability to manage time, resources, and competing priorities.
- Oversee quality assurance processes for senior English subjects and ensure compliance of curriculum work and documentation with ACARA and QCAA requirements. You are also required to lead by example in maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting your team members to do so.
- All teachers (learning designers) at Calvary are expected to plan, prepare, and deliver elements of the College’s Formation program, including devotions, lessons, and service learning as required.
- Other duties as directed by the Principal and CEO.

- Queensland College of Teachers registration
- Knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in English curriculum

4. Outline how your faith and beliefs align with ours as a Christian College. Demonstrate an appreciation that every leader supports and aligns with the culture at Calvary Christian College.
