Scotch Oakburn College is an independent, open entry day and boarding school of approximately 1,300 students from Early Learning through to Year 12, in association with the Uniting Church in Australia. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head of Humanities & Social Sciences at our Penquite Campus in Launceston. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Humanities & Social Sciences Department, providing strategic direction, and ensuring high-quality delivery of the curriculum. The Head of Department role has a time release component of FTE 0.20 and is held in conjunction with a complementary teaching load.

Key responsibilities include

- Leading the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning programs within the Humanities & Social Sciences Department.
- Providing leadership and guidance to a team of dedicated educators, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Ensuring compliance with educational standards, policies, and procedures while promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Contributing to curriculum development initiatives and participating in cross-departmental collaborations to enhance the overall educational experience.
- Engaging with parents, caregivers, and external stakeholders to build positive relationships and promote the value of Humanities and Social Sciences education.

- Proven experience in leading and managing a team within the field of Humanities & Social Sciences
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative and engaging curriculum within the Humanities & Social Sciences Department
- A strong understanding of current educational trends and best practices in the field of Humanities & Social Sciences
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents

- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing career development and keeping abreast of changes in the education sector, particularly within Humanities & Social Sciences
- Experience in curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting within Humanities & Social Sciences
- An understanding of pastoral care responsibilities associated with leading a department within an educational setting
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to enhance the overall educational experience for students
- A relevant degree in education and registration with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board are essential
