We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head of Humanities & Social Sciences at our Penquite Campus in Launceston. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Humanities & Social Sciences Department, providing strategic direction, and ensuring high-quality delivery of the curriculum. The Head of Department role has a time release component of FTE 0.20 and is held in conjunction with a complementary teaching load.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning programs within the Humanities & Social Sciences Department.
- Providing leadership and guidance to a team of dedicated educators, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Ensuring compliance with educational standards, policies, and procedures while promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Contributing to curriculum development initiatives and participating in cross-departmental collaborations to enhance the overall educational experience.
- Engaging with parents, caregivers, and external stakeholders to build positive relationships and promote the value of Humanities and Social Sciences education.

- Proven experience in leading and managing a team within the field of Humanities & Social Sciences
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative and engaging curriculum within the Humanities & Social Sciences Department
- A strong understanding of current educational trends and best practices in the field of Humanities & Social Sciences
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Ability to provide effective leadership in promoting a positive learning environment and student well-being within the Humanities & Social Sciences department
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing career development and keeping abreast of changes in the education sector, particularly within Humanities & Social Sciences
- Experience in curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting within Humanities & Social Sciences
- An understanding of pastoral care responsibilities associated with leading a department within an educational setting
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to enhance the overall educational experience for students
- A relevant degree in education and registration with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board are essential
