About the role
John XXIII College is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Health and Physical Education teacher to join staff in a permanent, full time capacity from Term 1, 2027. For the duration of the substantive Head of Sport's parental leave, the successful applicant will act as Head of Sport, leading the College's Secondary sport program and teaching approximately 0.35 FTE. At the conclusion of this appointment, the successful applicant will continue in an ongoing, full-time Health and Physical Education teaching role.
The Head of Sport is a significant leadership position within the Secondary School, responsible for providing strategic, operational and pastoral leadership of the College's sporting program. Working collaboratively with the Head of Health and Physical Education, sport staff, coaches, managers and external partners, the Head of Sport builds a culture of excellence, participation and inclusivity in sport at every level of the Secondary School.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Catholic ethos of the College and act in a manner supportive of its mission.
- Develop and implement a plan for the growth and development of the Secondary sporting program, ensuring the age-specific and individual needs of all students are met.
- Build a culture of excellence, excitement, momentum,
engagement and inclusivity in sport at all levels across the Secondary School.
- Lead and inspire the sport team to develop and maintain quality, innovative sporting programs and initiatives.
- Advise on the recruitment, appointment and appropriate deployment of sport staff, coaches and managers to ensure optimal student experiences.
- Lead and manage the Secondary sport program to ensure high-quality, consistent and inclusive sporting experiences across Years 7-12.
- Establish, manage and monitor the annual Sport budget and ensure the provision of necessary equipment, uniforms and resources.
- Develop, manage and implement all College ACC, SSWA and NAS related sporting programs, activities and carnivals.
- Fulfil a teaching load of approximately 0.35 FTE during the Head of Sport appointment, modelling high-quality, evidence-based teaching practice.
- Ensure student safety and wellbeing at all times and comply with all relevant child protection, safeguarding, and workplace health and safety requirements.
About you
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching qualification (essential).
- Current TRBWA registration (essential).
- Current Working with Children Card (essential).
- Health and Physical Education as a major teaching area (essential).
- Demonstrated high-quality teaching of Health and Physical Education across Years 7–12 (essential).
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and capacity to lead the Secondary sport program at the College (essential).
- Experience in the organisation and delivery of school sport, including interschool competitions, carnivals and events (essential).
- Experience coordinating and supervising coaches, team managers or other staff (essential).
- Outstanding organisational and analytical skills (essential).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including team building, coaching and mentoring (essential).
