Horticultural & Landscape Management:

As a Horticulturist, you will lead daily site operations, maintain high standards across client properties, and supervise field staff. In addition to advanced plant care and landscape maintenance, this role is responsible for overseeing, mentoring, and training apprentices and garden hands, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

- Execute advanced horticultural practices including plant identification, soil health management, pest and disease diagnosis, specialized pruning, and turf management.
- Plan, install, and maintain irrigation systems, planting schemes, and seasonal garden beds.
- Operate, maintain, and supervise the safe use of standard and specialized commercial equipment.

Supervision & Team Leadership:

- Direct daily team workflows on-site, allocating tasks to staff and monitoring progress to meet job budgets and timeframes.
- Oversee, mentor, and train apprentices and junior crew members, providing structured guidance on technical skills, horticultural techniques, and safety procedures.
- Sign off on apprentice logbooks and evaluate practical skill development in alignment with training requirements.

Operations & Safety Oversight:

- Conduct site risk assessments, enforce Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) compliance, and ensure all team members adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Serve as the primary on-site client contact, addressing inquiries professionally and ensuring high quality-assurance standards.
- Manage inventory, plant supplies, and equipment maintenance logs, reporting job progress and resource needs to management.

Requirements





- Qualifications & Experience:
- Certificate IV in Horticulture (or equivalent industry qualification).
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in commercial or residential horticultural maintenance.
- Proven experience supervising staff or leading teams on-site

Skills & Attributes:

- Strong knowledge of local plant species, weed identification, pest management, and soil science.
- Demonstrated leadership, clear communication, and time-management skills.
- High level of physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license (manual preferred) and reliable transportation; Chemical Application License (e.g., ChemCert) highly regarded.

Compensation Remuneration is paid in alignment with or above the Gardening and Landscaping Services Award [MA000101], dependent on qualifications and supervisory experience.

Pay: $60,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
