About the role
Careable is a registered NDIS provider in Melbourne's north. We run Supported Independent Living homes and deliver in-home supports across the community, with a team of around 35–40 support workers and a small, close-knit head office.
We're growing, and we need a go-to HR person. You'll be the first point of contact for our staff on day-to-day HR questions, coordinate recruitment and onboarding, keep our workforce compliance records audit-ready, and work directly with the CEO, who – along with our external HR advisers – handles the complex stuff. It's a broad, hands-on coordination role where you'll see the whole employee lifecycle, and your work will directly shape the experience of the people who support our participants every day.
The flexibility is real. Choose 2 or 3 days a week, set hours that work around your life, and work hybrid once you're settled in.
What you'll do
- Coordinate recruitment for support workers and head office roles – ads, screening, interviews, reference checks and offer paperwork
- Build a pipeline of quality support workers for our expanding in-home service
- Verify pre-employment checks: NDIS Worker Screening, WWCC, right to work, licence, First Aid, NDIS training modules
- Onboard current starters through our purpose-built onboarding portal – contracts, policies, payroll and super setup, induction
- Prepare contracts and offer letters from our approved templates
- Maintain audit-ready staff files and the compliance register, and chase expiries before they lapse
- Be the first point of contact for staff questions on pay, leave,
entitlements and policies, escalating anything complex
- Support the CEO and Team Leaders with performance, grievances, incident follow-up and return-to-work admin
- Maintain the HR policy register and staff handbook, and help build a positive, respectful workplace
What we're looking for
- HR administrator / coordinator / recruitment / people & culture support experience – ideally in disability, aged care or community services
- Working knowledge of Fair Work basics, the NES and modern awards (SCHADS especially)
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail – you never let an expiry slip
- Warm and approachable, with the discretion to handle sensitive matters confidentially
- Confident with cloud systems (Microsoft 365, HR/onboarding platforms) and quick to pick up new tools
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain), and the right to work in Australia
Nice to have: HR or Business qualification; experience with NDIS audits or workforce compliance; experience recruiting disability support workers; driver licence for occasional site visits.
What we offer
- Genuine flexibility – 2 or 3 days, hours that suit you, hybrid available
- $36.22–$42.00 per hour plus 12% super (SCHADS Level 2–3, depending on experience), reporting directly to the CEO
- A values-led team and the chance to shape people practices in a growing provider
- Modern, purpose-built systems – not spreadsheets and paper
Pay: $36.50 – $42.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12.0 – 18.0 per week
Work Location: In person
