Maroochydore
Xestro is growing rapidly, and we’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer – Linux & AWS to help operate and modernise our established production infrastructure based in Maroochydore.
About Xestro
Xestro is an Australian healthcare software company that helps specialist doctors manage their patients and run their practices. Our cloud-based platform is used daily in hundreds of busy clinics across Australia by thousands of healthcare providers.
We’re based in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, close to the Sunshine Plaza, and have recently moved into a multi-storey office to support our next phase of growth.
Our platform includes an established Linux, Apache, PHP and MySQL workplace running on AWS, alongside a newer Kubernetes-based platform. We’re continuing to improve the reliability, security and automation of our existing infrastructure while progressively modernising the wider technology estate.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll join our Platform team in our Maroochydore office and take an active role in managing the Linux and EC2 infrastructure supporting our core production platform.
The work includes Linux fleet administration, AWS infrastructure, Apache and PHP services, RDS, monitoring and observability through Datadog, incident response, capacity management, patching and automation. You’ll help reduce reliance on manually managed systems, improve operational documentation and progressively bring the established platform under repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure management.
You’ll also help set operational standards, identify systemic risks,
guide technical decisions and share your Linux and production operations experience across the team.
You’ll work closely with experienced software, platform and infrastructure engineers. This role suits someone who enjoys understanding how complex production systems actually behave, diagnosing problems from first principles and making practical improvements without losing sight of reliability.
Once settled in, the role participates in a shared, paid on-call incident response rotation.
About You
You may come from a traditional systems administration, infrastructure engineering, cloud operations or SRE background.
What matters most is how you approach the work:
- You take ownership of the systems you operate
- You are comfortable diagnosing production problems under pressure
- You understand Linux systems beyond running standard commands
- You value automation but can work safely with systems that are not yet fully automated
- You improve systems incrementally without disrupting critical services
- You communicate clearly and document what you learn
- You understand that operational work includes monitoring, maintenance and incident response
You’ll Be a Strong Fit If You Have
- Strong professional Linux systems administration experience
- Experience operating business-critical production systems
- Experience operating and troubleshooting production web services,
ideally Apache and PHP
- Strong AWS experience, particularly EC2, Auto Scaling Groups, VPC, IAM, load balancing, networking and DNS
- Strong TCP/IP, DNS, TLS and Linux networking fundamentals
- Experience with patching, operating system upgrades and fleet lifecycle management
- Shell scripting / Ansible / Terraform and infrastructure automation experience
- Experience with Datadog or a comparable observability platform, including infrastructure monitoring, logs, alerting and incident response
- Experience developing and maintaining operational runbooks
- Experience participating in an on-call or production support rotation
- Australian working rights and the ability to work from our Maroochydore office
Highly Desirable Experience
- MySQL or Amazon Aurora operations, including replication, connection management and performance diagnosis
- GitLab CI/CD
- Docker or Kubernetes
- Security hardening, vulnerability management and compliance activities
- Backup, recovery and disaster-recovery practices
- Migrating manually managed infrastructure into repeatable, version-controlled automation
Why Join Xestro?
- Job security in a long-established, growing healthcare SaaS company
- Meaningful work supporting systems used every day in real healthcare settings
- The opportunity to take ownership of important production infrastructure
- A practical modernisation program with experienced engineering peers
- Supportive, forward-thinking engineering and Platform teams
- Ongoing learning and a strong focus on security and reliability
- Sunshine Coast lifestyle with a healthy work-life balance
