About Sleeping Duck At Sleeping Duck, we don’t just make mattresses, we're on a mission to transform sleep and health through engineering and clinical innovation.

Sleeping Duck is a collective of engineers, designers, customer advocates, and medical professionals united by a shared mission: to create meaningful improvements in the quality of our customers’ lives. We focus on optimising sleep, because better sleep means more energy, better focus, and a greater capacity to thrive each day.

One of our most exciting innovations is the Z10 Body Fit System, engineered in collaboration with a neurosurgeon and leading physiotherapists. Developed to support patients experiencing chronic pain and those undergoing surgery, the Z10 is delivering exceptional results, and is currently available exclusively through physiotherapists. Projects like this are what drive us: complex problems, human-centred design, and life-changing outcomes.

I’m Chao, Head of Technology, and I’m looking for a driven Junior Data Analyst, on a 12-month fixed term contract, who wants to build high-impact solutions, take true ownership of their work, and directly shape how we scale. In this role, your insights won't just sit in a dashboard, they’ll drive decisions in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Who I am looking for For this, you will need to embody the following qualities:

- Ownership mindset: You take ownership of your work and outcomes. You understand that your contributions directly impact the business.
- Willingness to Learn & Take Feedback: You are comfortable and open to feedback. You’re genuinely coachable.
- Resilience & Grit: You handle uncertainty and setbacks well. You keep moving forward when things get challenging.
- Team Player Mentality: You collaborate genuinely and support your teammates. You care about lifting the team, not just yourself.
- Honesty & Pragmatism: You communicate directly and focus on what actually delivers value.

With the launch of new products, services, and clinical trials, data analytic requirements will change quickly in line with changing business needs. You’ll need to be creative and resourceful, but most importantly, stay positive and embrace that process.

This is a unique growth and learning prospect for the right person looking to expand their knowledge and experience.

This will be an ideal role for you if you enjoy the responsibility of autonomy, and working on the most pressing business priorities within a fast paced environment. What the role looks like in practice

Work Set Up & Cadence

- 4 days in the office and 1 day WFH
- We work in a fortnightly cadence, with 2-week sprints, plus some buffer for exploratory work.
- At the start of each fortnight, we’ll align on priorities and decide what’s most important to tackle.
- You’ll be given high-level goals, not detailed tickets or spec docs.

You’ll figure out the specifics with the team as you go. Our priorities can shift mid-sprint (but only as a last resort). We're not a startup by scale, but we move like one. You need resilience and adaptability to thrive here. Core Responsibilities
- Drive data-driven decision-making by turning complex datasets into actionable insights using Python, SQL, and visualisation tools (Tableau/Streamlit).
- Help shape and optimise our data pipelines and infrastructure as we scale our data analytics capabilities.

What else you’ll be doing
- You’ll help the clinical team perform data analysis on clinical and research questions.
- You’ll contribute to data pipelines and reports for the retail side of the business (marketing, supply chain, product, customer service, finance, etc.)
- You will ensure proper data handling for privacy and compliance, flagging risks and assisting teams on best practices.

Please leave a duck emoji at the start of your CV/Cover letter if you have read this far. Who you’ll work with

- Head of Tech: Direct manager and strategic oversight.
- Data Engineer: Provides day-to-day guidance, training, and code review.
- Biomechanical Engineer: Guides the mathematics and science behind medical research analysis
- Clinical Team: Close collaboration on research questions, data handling, and business analytics

Who We're Looking For

Essential

You'll have:

- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related STEM field. If you are a recent graduate, we’re ok with that too.
- Strong statistical background with demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods and hypothesis testing.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, including NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and SciPy.
- Solid SQL skills for querying and manipulating data.

Highly Desired
- Hands-on experience conducting statistical analysis in a research setting (medical/clinical research)
- Experience managing sensitive health data with attention to privacy and compliance
- Data visualisation libraries: Matplotlib, Plotly, and Streamlit
- Specialised Python libraries: Pydicom, Nibabel, SimpleITK, MONAI, Statsmodels, Pingouin, TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch
- AWS services (Lambda, Glue, SageMaker)
- Cloud data warehouse experience (Snowflake)
- Data pipelining and orchestration tools (dbt)
- Tableau or similar BI

Why You’ll Love It Here

- You won't be working in a silo. We collaborate across teams, engineering, clinical, and data, to build products that actually improve sleep and health.
- We aren't just shipping code or building dashboards; we’re using data to drive real clinical outcomes.
- We have an open-minded, forward-thinking and inclusive culture.

The Perks
- We don't just talk about growth; we fund it. You'll have an annual L&D; budget to sharpen your skills.
- Dedicated Wellbeing Days to help you recharge.
- After you’ve settled in (and successfully passed your 6-month probation), you’ll get a mattress on us to take home.
- Plus, generous discounts for your friends and family.

If this sounds like your kind of challenge, we’d love to hear from you. Send over your CV and a cover letter that speaks to who you are, we value the personal over AI-generation. We’re moving quickly to find the right teammate, so don't hesitate to apply. It doesn't matter if you're a side-sleeper, a back sleeper or an insomniac, we welcome sleepers of all backgrounds at Sleeping Duck. We're proud to recruit, develop, celebrate, and retain the most talented individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
