About the role
Our Commonwealth Government client is seeking an experienced lawyer to join an established in-house legal team, working on complex, high-value financial and housing-related transactions supporting major government programs. The role will suit a lawyer with a background in banking and finance, corporate or projects, who enjoys working collaboratively and supporting transactions from structuring through to financial close and post-completion. This role is available on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week) as an initial six-month labour hire contract.
The client’s primary office is located in Sydney CBD and this is the preferred working location; however, candidates based in Canberra, Brisbane or Melbourne may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Please note: only Australian citizens who have been admitted as a legal practitioner in an Australian jurisdiction can be considered for this role.
Duties:
- Support senior lawyers to manage legal aspects of complex financial and housing-related transactions, including identifying, assessing and mitigating legal risks.
- Advise on transaction structures, key legal issues, risks, opportunities, approvals and obligations within a Commonwealth legislative and policy framework.
- Draft, review, negotiate and settle finance, security and related commercial documents, including supporting closing arrangements and conditions precedent.
- Provide ongoing legal analysis, advice, negotiation and documentation support throughout the transaction lifecycle.
- Support eligibility assessments and transaction execution processes, working closely with internal legal, commercial and delivery teams.
- Instruct and liaise with external legal advisers, including monitoring the delivery of external legal services against project timeframes and budgets.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to the exchange of legal and commercial knowledge within the broader legal team.
Requisite skills/experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ postadmission experience in a top- or mid- tier firm, financial institution or in-house environment
- Experience advising on banking and finance or complex commercial transactions
- Strong drafting and legal analysis skills, with attention to detail
- Strong legal judgement, commercial focus and communication skills
- The ability to work confidently with multiple stakeholders in a rapid-moving environment
- Current practising certificate as a solicitor in NSW or other Australian jurisdiction.
