We are seeking a hands-on Lead Data Engineer to lead the delivery of a large-scale Azure data platform within a major financial services environment.

This role combines technical leadership, people management and stakeholder engagement. You will manage and mentor Data Engineers while remaining involved in architecture, coding standards, design reviews and complex technical decisions.

Key responsibilities

- Lead, mentor and develop a Data Engineering team
- Own the design and delivery of enterprise data platforms
- Build scalable pipelines, data models, warehouses and lakehouse solutions
- Manage stakeholders across business and technology teams
- Drive engineering standards across coding, CI/CD, governance and performance
- Ensure platforms are secure, reliable and cost-efficient

Key experience
- Strong Data Engineering leadership and team management experience




- Hands-on expertise in SQL, Python and PySpark
- Solid Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse experience
- Experience with Azure Databricks, ADLS and Delta Lake
- Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric
- Strong data modelling and data warehousing knowledge
- Experience delivering enterprise-scale data platforms
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Experience in financial services, Azure certifications, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, APIs, Azure Functions, Docker or Kubernetes would be advantageous. This is a permanent opportunity offering $180,000 base plus super, working onsite within a major Melbourne organisation.
