Wangaratta

About genuit legal genuit legal was founded in May 2025 by principal lawyer Nicole McDiarmid, and in a short time has grown into one of the region's trusted names in family law and commercial law. We also practice across property, wills and estates, and a range of other areas, giving our team broad exposure and genuine opportunities to build a well-rounded legal career.

We've built our team around people who share our values and work ethos, creating a calm, happy workplace where everyone plays a pivotal role. As we continue to grow, we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us.

About the role

We're looking for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our team in Wangaratta. This is a full-time role for someone who wants more than an administrative job — we're looking for a genuine long-term team member, someone keen to build their skills over time and eventually take on carriage of their own matters under supervision.

You'll start with a broad mix of front-of-house, administrative and paralegal support, and as your experience and confidence grow, so will your responsibilities.

What you'll be doing

- Greeting and welcoming clients, visitors and colleagues in a professional and friendly manner

- Handling phone calls, emails and correspondence, and directing enquiries to the right team member

- Arranging client appointments and managing the lawyers' calendars

- Preparing, drafting and formatting legal documents and correspondence

- Assisting lawyers with matter preparation, including basic legal research and drafting under supervision

- Maintaining electronic and physical filing systems, including opening and organising client files

- Liaising with clients,

courts and other parties on the progress of matters

- Providing general administrative support, including photocopying, scanning and document management

- Assisting with the coordination of client meetings and firm events

- Ensuring reception and meeting areas are well-presented

- Progressively taking on greater responsibility for your own files and matters as your experience develops

What we're looking for

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and friendly manner

- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

- Previous experience in a legal or skilled services environment is preferred but not essential — we're prepared to train the right candidate
- A keen eye for detail and commitment to accuracy
- A genuine interest in the legal industry and a desire to build a long-term career, including a willingness to undertake further study (e.g. Cert IV or Diploma of Legal Services) to progress toward paralegal work

What we offer

- Genuine career progression, with a clear pathway from legal assistant duties toward paralegal work and eventual carriage of your own matters

- Hands-on mentoring and exposure across family law, property, commercial, and wills and estates work
- A calm, supportive and values-driven team environment

- Remuneration commensurate with experience

If you're looking for a role where you can grow, learn and eventually make it your own, we'd love to hear from you. All applications will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
