The Role

At SMS Mining Services, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Maintenance Training Superintendent to lead apprenticeship and workforce development programs across the business.

Reporting to the General Manager – HSET, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating apprenticeship, workforce development and competency-based training programs across the business. You will support apprentices, Maintenance Technicians and overseas workers through their training journeys while ensuring compliance, maintaining training records, delivering competency assessments, and driving a culture of continuous learning and capability development.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Lead the delivery and administration of apprenticeship, Maintenance Technician, and overseas worker development programs, ensuring effective training outcomes and compliance with relevant standards.
- Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, and support to apprentices, Maintenance Technicians, and overseas workers to facilitate successful progression and completion of their training pathways.
- Develop and continuously improve internal training frameworks, resources, and competency-based learning programs aligned with business and operational requirements.
- Ensure accurate management of training records, reporting, and compliance documentation through the SMS Stems learning management system.
- Facilitate engaging learning experiences, including workshops, practical training sessions, and skills development activities that support workforce capability.
- Assess and verify workforce competency through the delivery of VOC assessments and Move and Test training programs.
- Champion a culture of safety, inclusion,



and continuous learning across all training initiatives.
- Provide on-site training, coaching, and technical support across SMS and client operations as required.
- Administer and reconcile apprenticeship funding and incentive payments through WAMS and DAMS, maintaining compliance with funding and reporting obligations.

What We’re Looking For

- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122).
- A mechanical trade background or qualification will be highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of Australian apprenticeship pathways, compliance obligations and training standards.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team culture.
- Experience coordinating and supporting training programs, preferably within apprenticeship or vocational education environments.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to engage effectively with apprentices, trainers and industry stakeholders.
- Strong computer literacy, including experience using Microsoft Office Suite and training management systems.
