About the Role
Care 24 is seeking a reliable, active and culturally respectful Aboriginal Male Support Worker to provide individualised one-to-one support to a young Aboriginal man.
This role is focused on positive mentorship, cultural connection, building independence, developing life skills, supporting education and increasing community participation.
The participant would benefit from a worker who can relate to his cultural background, provide positive male mentorship and understand the importance of Aboriginal culture, identity, family, community and Men’s Business.
Gender Exemption: Keeping with the participant’s personal privacy, safety, and cultural needs (Men's Business), male-only applicants are sought for this position. This is a Genuine Occupational Requirement exempt under Section 28 / Section 8 of the Equal Prospect Act 2010 (VIC).
Key Responsibilities The role may include:
- Providing positive male mentorship and role modelling
- Supporting the participant to develop independent living skills
- Supporting study, education and learning routines
- Encouraging community participation and social engagement
- Supporting cultural and community activities
- Assisting with daily routines and household tasks
- Building confidence, motivation and decision-making skills
- Supporting appointments and recreational activities
- Encouraging healthy and active lifestyle choices
- Transporting the participant where required
- Supporting the participant to work towards his NDIS goals
- Completing progress notes and other required documentation
About You We are looking for someone who is:
- An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander male
- Respectful and knowledgeable about Aboriginal culture and community
- Able to provide positive male mentorship
- Reliable, punctual and consistent
- Active and willing to participate in community activities
- Patient, calm and approachable
- Able to build strong rapport while maintaining professional boundaries
- Focused on participant choice, dignity and independence
- A confident and respectful communicator
Experience in disability support, youth work, mentoring, community services or working with young Aboriginal people will be highly regarded.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have or be willing to obtain:
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- First Aid and CPR
- Valid Australian driver's licence
- Reliable and insured vehicle where required
- Relevant disability/community services experience or qualifications
- Required Care 24 induction and training
- Working rights in Australia
